    Question B758 B958 J-3205

Was wondering what some of your observations are about the J-3205 jams and fixes for it.
    Whatever

Check the solenoid in the exit unit just past the fuser. It is very common for it to bind up and send the paper the wrong direction.

Thanks. So like the 754 you need to play with the spring tension. The machine I am working on jam so intermittently its difficult to pinpoint the issue.
Was thinking that the paper was getting caught under a fuser pick off pawl and even had a fuser wrap.

I know you need to replace the lower duplex actuator when you start getting J-9202 and the syncro actuator plus sensor for J-3003 but that is only after about 2 million prints
J-3205 could be from the upper duplex/fuser exit sensor as well.

So far looks like J-3205 could be the fuser the duplex gate or the actuator on the exit wearing out.

Will check the solenoid on the next call.
    Whatever

Will have a look at that as soon as I get to the office.

You open the jam door, and you find 25% of the sheet coming out of the fuser. If so, that's the cause, it's happened to me many times.

The standard things to check for this, including on the Colour versions of this engine, C659/C759

1, ensure duplex gate lowest point is 34mm off the table when measured outside the machine ( no more, or can ride over the top of the exit unit in the side door, no less or moist papers with curl can jam on duplex)

2, (particularly on the colour machines) always ensure adequate leading edge gap on both sides of the pages as this is notorious for causing fusing wrap jams on all KM machines printing high coverage too close to the leading edge.

3, on all versions of this engine, in humid environments with poorly stored paper - even on single sided prints you will have jams just leaving the fuser. There will be curl towards the outside of the machine, the paper cannot overcome the friction offered by the grounding brush at the entrance of the yellow fusing exit assy at the top of the rhs door. My fix for this is just remove it. Remove the brush only not the mylar it sits on. Clean off all glue residue. Done this on daily jammers destroying fusing units and zero jams again in this section. with the shittest paper imaginable and even feeding it as the wrong thickness setting to exagerate the curl. Zero jams, zilch. Problem solved.

*** obviously check for bent fuser claws and replace as necessary in addition to the above

On these engines you can adjust the lower roller and the fusing sleeve temp separately. Was thinking that you could "steer" curl slightly with that.

My opinion is that this machine runs faster than it's design can handle. The actuator issue is annoying. Even the new style actuator barely blocks the photosensor so "switch bounce" will cause the 9902 jams. I had success by heating and twisting the actuator just a smidge to better cover the PS.

I have done something similar on the B423 series on the duplex to get it run duplex continuously. I moved the sensor to get a better result. The smart thing would be to put trigger circuits on the input lines to the micro controller that will eliminate switch bounce. It can be done by coding to only except the first signal and to wait a certain time before it would read the next input. No idea how KM approaches that problem.

I don't have too much trouble with the the 758/958 machines but once it starts it could be one of many issues. Since I took out the most inner pressure roller picker pawl from the last machine that gave me hell it seems to work. Touch wood.

Now the Pro 950i is out I wonder what kind of surprises that will hold. The 750i fuser is a complete failure but the engine seems to keep up.
    Whatever
