    C4050i DF Control Board

Not requesting for help but wanted to ask something. Does anyone had a case where DF Control Board just flat out died for no specific reason? This is the sixth time this year where i had to replace this part alone. I can't comprehend or figure it out why this board alone can cause the printer to shut down and not be able to boot up unless i swap out this part.

The printers where i was servicing them, were usually located at office rooms with no dangerous or hazardous environment and these boards not accessible for normal user since you need to know where such board is and how to dissasemble it. I have multiple printers with much worse conditions and they work just fine. It's always those damn boards that are located in offices.

Just recently, another printer shut down and refused to power on and the first thing i had to come in mind is: Gee it's another DF Control Board that went to the way of Dodo.

The common symptoms of faulty DF Control Board is: ADF setting in service mode unavailable and E8-1 error when self diagnosing or not being able to power on. I tried swapping power supply and base board. No luck until i swapped out this part alone.

Its a Known problem with KM no workaround ATM

      Cause
ADF control board failure was reported to cause the no power symptom from the field. It was found that a failed ADF board may cause overload on DC 24V power line and activate the power supply protection.
Power supply does not get affected if ADF control board fails and does not require replacement.

      Solution
In addition to the causes for no power symptom mentioned in the service manual unplug the power cord and test if the ADF board is causing the symptom by disconnecting the ADF wiring harness from BASEB convector CN6E ( no need to disconnect the ADF flat cable from BASEB).

Check if machine powers on with BASEB CN6E connector unplugged.

Replace DF control board if it found to cause the no power symptom

i guess throw DF control BD's at it, till a proper solution

I've seen near new SMD capacitors dead short after some time in operation. I've had other boards with this issue, including with vapourised tracks because the load wasn't enough to put the psu into protect mode. Not KM's fault it will be a supplier thing.

Replaced few more adf boards but the last one caught my eye. The last printer i fixed was throwing various errors 5357, 6102 and 5701. Upon further diagnosing, it gave me E8-1, which means there's no communication between adf and base board. After replacing another ADF board and trouble resetting, the printer was back in working condition. Funnily enough, upon installing "faulty adf" in my test printer, it turns out, it's working just fine. It's being detected in service mode and no trouble with paper passage test.
