Copystar cs-255, CS-6530 Doccument Processors not lying flat.

Anyone else having problems with these DP's not lying flat? Especially on the left side causing machine not to recognize the feeder in the down position or creating a blurred line on copy. I have a bunch of these and a new hinge doesn't seem to solve the problem. Anyone else seeing this and do you have a solution?

    TIA

the plastic frame is twisted, junk the feeder.

you can try adjusting the thumbwheel; that is inside a separate cover in the wiping-cloth storage compartment, but we've had very limited success with that method.

if you really MUST keep the feeder on that machine, install some steel plate weights inside the front cover. they will press the unit down flat, and satisfy the sensor that is measuring the press plate/bar position at the front corner of the doc processor.

The plastic on these doc feeder frames is way too thin and it cracks in many places around the left hinge.
You can remove the left hinge and create your own new frame, using epoxy and metal supports, all in an effort
to make it stronger. Yes, I have done this to a couple of them successfully. Make sure you leave enough room for the hinge to go back on though.
Users tend to push down on the doc feeder when they copy books and/or lift the doc feeder too high, past its stopping point, causing the cracks.
If too many cracks or if it is too twisted, the only fix is to replace the whole doc feeder, if you can still get one.

I changed one of these DP bases Friday. I wasted a good 40 minutes discovering that I hadn't positioned the feed shift guide in the exit section under the read guide holder. Be sure to order up the two mylars by the slit glass, the two velcro pads that attach the matt at the right, and the left hinge. If you can avoid my mistakes you can have it done in 120 minutes.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

if you're desperate, as I once was - stack some washers(or plastic c-clips if that's all you've got) under the screws of the right DP mount/hinge assy so that it lifts the rear corner of the document processor and therefore brings the front left corner down to flush.

The 2 times I've seen that it was just loose screws on the left hinge. They just tighten into plastic and can back off.

Best of luck, I tried taking one of things down before all the way and never could get it back together right. I have a lot of these machines in the field, I just keep part machines now, cheaper and easier.
