Maybe tray would blocked during moving by something, or tray holder deformed.

Since you say resetting the code works for a while, I would suspect that you have a sensor flag hanging up randomly. What model are you working on? A little more info would help nail down what is going on.

    ...

... nope, I can't guess. Maybe you can tell us what model you're talking about. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    Re: taskalfa c8160 intermittent error

I am getting C8160 on a few taskalfa 4052ci with the inner finisher, seems to be a problem when the exit tray lowers, gears ,belt and motor look ok.

    Anyone had this issue?

    Re: taskalfa c8160 intermittent error

I am having same issue on a TA 3552ci. Internal finisher 7100.

    > upgraded firmware
    > used U240 to check DF tray motor operation ( moving fine when exit tray is cascaded but jerks when tray is extended to receive A3 for example)
    > also noticed 2 ball bearings for the Exit tray lowers are stiff and two are very free
    > gears, belt are ok
    >worm gear on motor is fine.

Any help will be appreciated. This is Weird.

    Re: taskalfa c8160 intermittent error

So the spring that breaks on me is in the paper feed section in df7100 parts fig 3 item 19 spring guide upper. You can reform it and will work until you get a new one assuming that is the issue. I would advise removing finisher from machine to remove some covers from it.
    good luck
