    7002i DV streaking

    Hello all,

I've got a TaskAlfa 7002i with an ongoing issue.

Please see attached images for sample.

It seems the DV unit is randomly streaking. Sometime it will start off the job and then fade out, other times it will start part way through the job and continue. The streaks will move up the page which made me first think just trash in the unit not getting pushed out the waste. I even stuck a piece of paper under and over the roller to try to dislodge anything in there. The first time, I thought it helped but it came back within a day. The second time I ran AC Calibration on it and it went away but came back the next day.

This is the second time it has come back in 450k images. The first time, we replaced the DV unit at 235k images.

    F/W is up to date.
Don't see any bent or missing springs or other connectors.
Drum looks perfect, I don't see anything on there that could be a contributor.
I can, sometimes, see slight streaks on the DV roller itself, very slight.
I've tested the outlet and it shows perfect readings but, I can't test the line under load.

I'm gonna have to replace the DV unit

Yes, it looks like you've got some contaminant under the doctor blade. AFAIK there is not a way to access the doctor blade without irreparable breaking the unit. You probably will have to replace the developer assembly.

Are you using OEM toner? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yeah, that's all we use. Kyoceras seem to be engineered to implode otherwise.

Well, the first time it happened I replaced the DV and it went away for ~225k copies. I went ahead and replaced the DV unit again this time and it went away. If it happens again I may try the belt instead but, I could see the streaks fairly well yesterday when I replaced the DV. I couldn't see anything on the transfer belt to indicate it was the problem.

    We'll see. Thanks.

Yea looks like a piece of label stuck in transfer belt. Although I can't account for 225k clean pages. But I know DV contentment usually results in a void not a streak.

    Re: 7002i DV streaking

So, just a follow up to this issue. Replaced the DV unit and everything is fine so far.

I took the bad DV unit apart and found quite a bit of lint in there, stuck right up under the doctor blade. It looks like what may have been happening is the felt pads that sit on the mag roller ends are starting to wear. It didn't look like environmental contaminants. It was clearly a lot of short fibers, clumped together and not easily moved.

    Thanks for all your input.

It could also reflect on the quality of the media. Paper fiber can get pulled into the developing unit during the developing cycle, and it knits itself into a sweater of a sort. I see this too on Toshiba Broadpeak series, in the second transfer cleaning augers. The fibers seem to knit themselves together and block the passage of the waste toner. =^..^=

    Re: 7002i DV streaking

As Blackcat said it could be the quality of the paper. I have had numerous situations where the build up of what I call "paper dust" has created strings 8 to 10 inches long. One could break free and enter the developer contaminating it and creating streaks. As a standard procedure on every service call we clean the paper dust wiper on the registration roller to prevent a build up from getting into the DV. Some DV's you can clean out, others once they are contaminated you need to replace the DV. One trick I have used is to rotate the DV roller backwards so the mag roller is heavily covered in toner and then rotating forwards. In many cases you can see the contaminate between the roller and the frame. Clean them. Do this several times and you may be able to save the DV.
