    km-2050 scanning

    hihi
End user here. I've set up a few printers, both at home, and basic setup at work too (installing printer driver, setting up scanning on the machine to go directly to network shared folder on computer, etc).

I'm having a heck of a time trying to set up the scanning feature on this Kyocera KM-2050 machine. Any pointers would be much appreciated.

This is what I've tried so far:
I set up the machine via USB cable. Printing was working, scanning was not. Googled around, and seems you need to connect via network cable?
Connected via LAN cable to the top port. Nothing worked, not scanner nor printer.
Connected via LAN cable to the bottom port. Printer working but scanner isn't. Tried both official drivers and the file scan utility, still can't get it to scan. Googled a Vista km 2050 twain driver (couldn't find one for win 7), installed NAPS and some other scanning software, because apparently twain drivers are universal and should have worked? But both programs crashed. Still can't scan!

Really at my wit's end!!!!!!!!!!!!! Argh, any help would be much appreciated!

You can forget about SMB1 or email. You will have success with FTP.

    1) connect BOTH network ports. Top one is for scanning, bottom one for printing. Set TWO unique static IP addresses that are unused.
    2) load a print driver for printing.
    3) load the FTP utility for scanning.

Keep in mind that you've got yourself a 12 year old MFP. No SSL, No SMB2 or SMB3.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Thank you for your reply! Highly appreciate your time.

My router has only 1 spare port.
Can I connect the printer via USB, and connect the top port for scanning? Should that work?

Yes. You have to connect the top port to your network for scanning. The top port is your scanner nic and the bottom port is for the print controller.

That will work. Or you can add a simple 4 port switch at the printer. =^..^=
