Theres some logic to that. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I'm thinking that the light source unit may intermittently not be in the correct position when the doc feeder is operating.[/QUOTE]

    Nathicana,
I believe you are correct. Loosen the scanner drive motor slightly and also make sure scanner rails are lubricated and scanner slides smoothly.

Have you confirmed it does not do it when you put the original on the glass? If not I would use the charts ( U411) to get it back in spec.

I am trying this advice as well. I have a 6002i doing the same thing. I will follow up my results. The problem of course is how intermittent this is making troubleshooting very difficult.

When you remove the scanner drive motor you will find a "hidden" screw behind it. You will want to slightly loosen that one too. There have been 2 documented cases where this was the issue here in the US. (yes, one of them was at our office)

I have had two that have had that very problem. ADF only. It can be corrected by adjusting sim 68 to somewhere around +16.
Just play with the settings in Sim 68 and see which direction makes it go away.

It looks like someone messed with the density on copies...but that would be on the whole page

I've seen it before on different copiers (so I don't know if it applies to this one) where the actual scanner unit corner is pressed down so its not level...

Try a print if the problem vanish then the problem is at scaner ( clean optics, check and clean lamp etc) else clean with a brush high voltage board . If it remains replace it.

I saw this once on 6002i and it was the scanner lock position was in the shipping mode.
I couldn't believe it till I took it out of shipping mode .
    Some installer screwed me.
