PDF problem with KYOCERA MITA CDC 5525 DCC 6525

    I have this printer model:

    MODEL: CDC 5525_DCC 6525

    VERSION: 2KZ_2F00.006.101

    © 2010 KYOCERA MITA Corporation

    with these firmware:

    Firmware sistema: 2KZ_2F00.006.101

    Firmware motore: 2K0_1000.017.001

    Firmware pannello: 2KZ_7000.005.016

when I print some PDFs the printer prints a sheet with many random characters.
I think it's too old a firmware problem with too recent PDFs.
But surely some of you professionals know how to solve the problem.
    Thanks

What print driver are you using? Should be the KX driver set to PCL5

Re: PDF problem with UTAX CDC 5525 DCC 6525

Like bsm, I would suspect a print emulation issue.

There are two basic print languages that print data is sent in: PostScript (PS) and Printer Control Language (PCL). If the incorrect print driver emulation is selected, the printer may not be able to decode the print data, so it prints the data exactly as is arrived: encoded.

Based on the model number I'm going to guess that you really have a UTAX branded Kyocera, probably a Hanabi. These machines can be set in the web interface to a specific emulation (PS, PCL, or Auto). Likewise in the print driver settings you can select a specific emulation (PS, PCL, or Auto).

So if your print driver sends PS data, but your printer can only read PCL data, you can get seemingly random strings of characters (lots of smilies, flowers, and other non-ASCI characters), one line per page, hundreds or thousands of pages.

Does that sound like what's happening?

Additionally, If you want to use ALL the features use the UTAX branded driver, NOT the Kyocera branded driver. Features like Private Print, and Job Accounting will not work correctly (the encryption key for the data is based on the manufacturer/model). =^..^=

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

If you don't know where to find the firmware, you probably do not know how to install it. Furthermore, firmware will not solve a print emulation problem. This is a common theme with IT guys. They think everything is caused by software or firmware.

Adobe is notorious for not being to handle some PDF's,not produced by Adobe software, in an accurate manner. Download PDFxchange viewer, Nitro PDF reader, Bullzip or any other PDF reader. If it works you know the problem is with Adobe. This is the first thing I try to eliminate as the problem.

Agree, that would be the first thing to do in this case.
I have seen this a few times(on another manufacturers), it was always caused by software/driver. Your last not first resort would be the firmware.
