    ECOSYS M2040dn - knocking noise

Have a M2040dn making a knocking noise coming from the toner/developer/drum section I think. Any one run into this before? Do not know if it is the paper feed which I don't think it is or a bad developer unit or drum unit. Both turn fairly easy.

    Thanks

I had one of those making a knocking noise and it turned out to be a fuser which they changed to correct it and also jamming once in a while

It's the fuser. The noise echoes throughout the machine. I thought it was paper lift, then drum/dev. First time I saw it I turned the fuser by hand and it seeemed fine and after re-installing it went away for a couple months. Came back and I changed the fuser. Have seen this issue a couple more times since then on other machines.

Like the above post says the fuser has a couple bulletins...will also cause non-stop 42xx jams.

Re: ECOSYS M2040dn - knocking noise

Thanks for the help. What I did was remove the fuser drive assy and took the cover off and two gears and there is a tension spring under them. I stretched the spring and put it back together and installed the fuser drive and fuser and tested. No popping. Figured it was worth a shot. So I guessing the spring tension had weakened and let the gears slip a bit.
