    Flat cable repairs

I dont think its possible but maybe one of you has a fix. Had a flat cable that the silver contacts are peeling off. Of course the cable is one that goes from the scanner to PCB and according to parts manual you cant just get the cable you have to get the entire ISU assy. Has anyone tried to have a successful repair on these types of cables.

you can find new online, you just have to know how many traces and dimensions of the cable.

I have heard of people just cutting the ends of the cable with a pair of sharp scissors.Maybe One day I will have to try.

Cut it with scissors and scrape of the insulation with a razor blade if you need to flow a thin layer of solder on the the new exposed copper.
    Whatever

    Re: Flat cable repairs

If the damaged contacts are peeling back less than 3mm I've successfully trimmed off the end of the cable with sharp scissors.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Santander its a ecosys M6635 .The parts manual has a breakdown of the scanner section with the ISU and the cable no seperete part number for cable. After reading your post going further in the manual there is a wire section (fig. 33)that has a part number for what i believe is the cable (#1) part # 302NV46031 . Could that be just the cable ? I have never had luck cutting the cable but there is always a first.

Thanks to everyone who suggested using scissors to cut the flat cable. I learned something new.

Yeah that worked for my too in some occasions (or kind of saved my ass). Unfortunately flat cables on newer MFPs are built even more thinner/delicate so this "dirty fix" is getting harder to perform.

No, the part number you describe is for a connector, not the flex cable. You are correct the parts manual only lists the ISU with the cable as a part to be ordered, different than other MFP,s. Have had success in a couple of situations where applying a small amount of super glue to the substrate and pushing the lands back down to secure them and then cleaning the land contacts with a very fine emery cloth to remove any glue residue has worked in a pinch, depends on how delaminated the contacts are.
