    Kyocera ECOSYS M6535cidn C2760

Another one of our techs & I traded off calls on this machine. There were probably 5 or 6 calls, basically for the same thing: C2760 or image quality issues relating to poor primary transfer belt cleaning. Usually we found the primary transfer cleaner unit packed solid, and sometimes the yellow drum cleaning unit too.

At some point I discovered that the enduser had jammed the waste bottle in place with the lid closed. That was probably the start of the whole thing, and it was surprisingly difficult to remove.

It continued to back up waste toner though. The machine is rather low volume, so it might take a month to come back. We had come to the conclusion that there was something wrong in the waste auger system. It's located between the power supply and the right frame. There's really nothing left on the right frame once you've got it off. The other tech removed it yesterday. He did most of the work, just getting it off the frame.

Once the waste auger unit was split open, you could see that the helical gear had spun on the auger shaft. It was a simple MacGuyver to drill a #67 hole through the gear and shaft, coat the contact surfaces with epoxy, and slide in the pin (paper clip). Sorry I don't have any pix.

I sure hope we don't have to do that again. =^..^=

    EDIT: added a few illustrations.
Everything in the first view? Yes, remove everything.

The only illustration that shows the auger system is here. When you remove the HVT you can see ~1/2 of the auger system outlined in red.

If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

That's an interesting fix by the sound of it. Did your company charge the customer for his mistake?

PS - I'm not familiar with the waste toner system on that model so I'm having a difficult time picturing your MacGuyver fix.

This fix didn't happen if you don't have pictures.

I'm kidding but would have been very interested to see a picture of the fix.

This is a tabletop color, like the Gemini, with many of the same flaws. I was told that there is no part number for the waste auger unit, probably because most techs would give up before they got to it.

    Yeah, it's the same beast.

No I'm not going to take it apart again to get photos. =^..^=

We have not run into this issue, yet, of the customer jamming the waste toner container while shut. Thank God. But, we had clients that were using aftermarket toners on this unit and it was constantly saying "toner empty." I went out vacuumed out the transfer assembly, checked the developing units, drums, etc. and I insisted they buy OEM toners. Guess what, they listened to the mechanic, purchased OEM's (knock on wood), they have run flawlessly for over three months and counting. Thanks for the tip, Blackcat.

That is truly the exception to the rule. At times like that I always take photos and good documentation, so when they repeat the same thing again they can pay. My basic assumption is that my advice will be routinely ignored. =^..^=

On a few occasions it was, but I kept going back for the same issue and it started to become costly to the clients. So, they finally did it my way and no more issues. On another instance, during install I stressed no generic toners because it will cause issues, they did not listen and purchased aftermarket toners, that's when the problems of "toner empty" began. I vacuumed the machine out, reminded them of what I had told them from the get go, no aftermarkets, installed OEM toners and all has been great since with the copier.
Moral of the story...if you have a newer Kyocera, Copystar just use the OEM toners as CPC is already fairly low.

I haven't been involved in contract pricing in a long time, but I'd guess a mid-range at $0.0075 black, $0.075 color or single color. Naturally high volume customers will pay less, Low volume or becoming-obsolete customers pay more. And there are plenty of exceptions: very dirty environments, abusive or needy users, etc.
