    TA-3551ci - J4401 jam code

@ arrival, the machine was jamming every time when printing 2-sided. The jam code is J4401. The '01' indicates the paper was fed from tray 1. The "44" indicates that paper is arriving late @ Duplex Sensor 2 (Dus2).

I attempted to print duplex copies from the other 3 paper sources and get same result.

Out of the blue it started passing paper when printing 2-sided but it would eventually jam after about 10 pages.

I searched the forum. Didn't see a definitive answer. I think I'm gonna replace the entire conveying unit to see if that clears the problem.

Anyone have any feedback on this jam code?

    Thanks.

Make sure all the photo sensors are clean. You would be surprised how a little paper dust will affect these.

    Replace the duplex clutches.

Definitely clutches. The rust will be a dead giveaway. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

This is the first time I've had the need to disassemble the duplex unit on this model. Duplex Clutch 2 is kind of a bitch to take off, huh?...i took one apart here at the shop.

I see these are sealed clutches, so no cleaning...they must be replaced?

Cleaning helps ... but by the time you see the rust they're done for. In an emergency when I only had say 4 of the 6 clutches I really needed, I have disassembled, cleaned all the parts, and cherry-picked the least worn components from the (4) used clutches. It's hardly worth the trouble though. Better just to replace. =^..^=

This is the same clutch used in multiple locations on these machine. My theory is it has something relevant to the IH section, as the reason it's usually the top one that fails. The bottom one and resist clutch, I believe are the same, and last much longer.
    Hope that helps !

Just to follow up: I went back to the machine this morning and replaced the top clutch and that cleared the problem right up. Thanks to everyone in this thread that helped me out.

Might be wrong but I'm sure the bypass clutch is the same so you could steal that if they don't use it.
