Default Setting for "auto drum refresh"?

Hello,

With my new kyocera p3145 I noticed that the printer lets the drum spin for a while at certain intervals and thus carries out the so-called "auto drum refresh", which can be set in the service menu: Off / Short / Standard / Long. (Current setting is "Standard")

The function itself is probably not new, as there is a description of the function in numerous manuals for various Kyocera printers (or service manuals).

What irritates me a bit: With the Kyocera printers that I have had so far, I never noticed an "auto drum refresh" ...

Does anyone know whether an activated "auto drum refresh" function is a standard setting for Kyocera printers?

Or should I really leave it active? - after all, this is additional wear and tear and if the print image is not right you can start the process manually at any time ...

The drum refresh process is intended to remove condensation from the drum surface. It's performed at initialization, waking from sleep mode, and when the humidity sensor triggers it. I personally would leave it at Standard. It's not using very much toner to perform the refresh, and I doubt that it produces any noticeable drum wear. The only reason that I might change the cycle to Short is if you're getting blurry images.

I had a church, just coming back from the Covid. The machine (KM-3500i, I think) was in the basement, and the heating/air conditioning had been off for the last 9 months. I figured that it would take a month of regular heat/air conditioning to get the moisture level back to normal in that basement. Rather than changing the drum refresh cycle, I showed the customer how to do the drum refresh as necessary. It will need doing less and less often as the humidity comes down. =^..^=

I was not aware that there is a direct relationship with the moisture. Then the default setting makes sense.
