    Scan error type: other

    Hello Gents.

I think I saw another thread here somewhere... Couldn't find it again.

Its scan to email, most of the time works, intermittently doesn't.

Print out says "other", not server/setting/connect..

Ta4500i, latest firmware, timeout 60seconds,officr365 with 587 and starttls

Could this be a latency issue? First time I have seen this.

It would help to have the code, but that could be tricky if it's intermittent. You'll have to catch it in the act. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yes, get us the code. If it's 3102 then we should talk.

Also note if the error occurs during heavy usage scanning with several single or small scanning jobs back-to-back.

    Re: Scan error type: other

I would ping the mail server, then enter that IP address in the SMTP hostname field, to eliminate DNS as the possible issue. It's really the only item that could cause intermittent scan errors. And as the others mentioned, the error code is imperative to troubleshoot with. On the new machines, they finally got smart and have it print on the error pages. Previous models, you had to see it happen.
    Hope that helps !

Is the TA-4500i TLS 1.2 or higher compliant?

Higher, no. TLS 1.3 will only be seen in the '4' series and beyond.

TLS 1.2 is supported, but there have been updates to elements (i.e. ciphers) within the TLS 1.2 spec and many new RFC's which the older framework may not comply with.

+1. When in doubt always use IP instead of hostname.

    Re: Scan error type: other

    Hi,
Nothing to do with a device itself. Almost...
Lots of complaints over the last two weeks from customers who use O365. The most common complaint is: "every sixth or seventh scan job fails, wtf?".
My best guess is that MS continues to roll out changes that were delayed (and rollbacked in some places) due to Corona stuff. It should have been enforced a year ago (2020 Oct 15).

MS about this: Preparing for TLS 1.2 in Office 365 and Office 365 GCC - Microsoft 365 Compliance | Microsoft Docs
Make sure device supports strong ciphers: Preparing for TLS 1.2 in Office 365 and Office 365 GCC - Microsoft 365 Compliance | Microsoft Docs

A word about TLS 1.2 on the device. If your device does supports TLS 1.2, this does not necessarily mean it uses it for communication by default. You can try to disable older TLS 1.0, 1.1 and leave only TLS 1.2.

    Re: Scan error type: other

Been dealing with this problem past week. All of our 00-series TA's that were previously using O365 are now incapable. I posted in the Connectivity thread about this. It seems MS deprecated TLS 1.0 and 1.1 last weekend. At least for plenty of my clients. Disable those protocols and SMTP starts working again on most machines, but all of the TA-xx00 and TA-xx50 machines won't work with O365, and need alternative SMTP.

Office 365 now requires TLS 1.1. Seems they are updating security on all their mail servers?
We have had many calls re this over the last two weeks. Mostly on 52/53 series machines where TLS 1.1 wasn’t ticked.
