    "Public User" on a Kyocera/Copystar

Does anyone know if it's possible to set up a Kyocera/Copystar to allow for black and white only copying on a color machine without entering a code - similar to using "Public User" on a Konica? As far as I know, if you turn on job accounting you have to enter a code to use the machine.

That's what I thought. What about if you use User Authentication? That's the route you had to go on the Konica to use Public User. Just trying to see if something like this is possible on a Kyocera/Copystar.

Kyocera used to have an app called color lock, that did exactly what you're describing. Only for the copy side, not print. It's not available to download on their site any more, so may not work for newer machines. What model are you talking about?

Turn on "Guest Authorization" and in Guest settings, you can restrict functions from there.

    Good luck

I'm setting up some new "4" series machines. I will look more in to this "Guest Authorization" and see what I can figure out. Thanks!

Green4go is correct. Under management settings/authentication, Local Authentication, you can enable guest authorization. The way I do it is to set up a Color account with a login code. Give it color access. That way it stays on B&W by default, but if you select the color button, it brings up the login screen for the Color account. Otherwise anyone can walk up and make B&W copies.
    Hope that helps !

I think I got it. I also set "Unknown User Settings" to "Permit" and set it to reject color printing. As long as the print driver is defaulted to black it will print without giving a restriction error or login error. To allow the color user to print in color, you have to enter the user's login information in administrator settings under the device settings tab. It works about the same as the Konica method.

This is a great way to lock your Web-interface and System menu so that it requires an admin login to change anything including the address book.
