Kyocera M3540idn Jam 501

Hi guys, I have a customer's machine, M3540idn, has one additional drawer...machine has just under 400K on it, had had the maint kit done at 300K... Machine will throw jam 501 error from top drawer only, it doesn't matter if you are making 1 copy or 5 copies, it mite work 2 times out of 5 and it mite jam with 1 copy, then the next time it will make 3 and jam, then it mite do 10 then jam... I replaced the feed rollers, sep roller & even tried 14" from top drawer & still same outcome. bottom drawer is great, top is the issue, by-pass tray works great ... Any help appreciated

Is the pickup spring still there? Often that spring disappears ... especially after a roller change. =^..^=

M3540idn Has no spring as i remember

i believe the 3540 and the printer version(2100) are fixed without the spring.

did the 501 jams happen before the kit or only after?

The jams just started on Friday with the customer, the maint kit was done months ago... The M3540 doesn't have a spring for the feed roller assy in the upper drawer.. The additional drawer has the spring, but not the upper standard drawer.

I did replace the feed roller assy today and also the sep roller in the drawer, but that did not help

ssounds like the clutch pack on the right side of the machine that drives feed. they usually go out around the count that you gave
They arent too bad to put in

its called "Parts drive feed assembly" its a pack. Has 2 clutches and a solenoid on it. Part number for the 42 ppm is 302MS94051 i believe. super easy to put in

I’m with Blackcat re the spring above the feed unit They always go missing. Often the machine will work ok with the brand new rollers, but as they lose their grip months later they start to jam. 501 is a timing error out of the tray.
It’s likely the missing spring
Also the clutches do wear and at 400k they are on the suspect list too.
This is from the parts list. This model should have a spring to put pressure between the pick up rollers and the paper in the tray

I'm not gonna argue, but there is no spring in the feed assy for the m3540, I have 2 in my shop that have under 40k on them and neither one has the spring in the feed unit, the feed assy actually fits right up against the upper metal frame that it clips in to and there is no movement from the feed assy.... If there was movement I would say to add a spring for down pressure, but no movement at all from the feed assy.
