I have a customer that for the second time in 6 months, the machine wouldn't print faxes that were in memory and thus they couldn't print or copy.
The paper trays were all set to auto/plain but for some unknown reason the in the fax settings, the paper type changed from plain to bond. I changed it back and all worked fine.
I'm good friends with the guy over their IT department and I know they didn't change it.
Anyone ever seen this?

Had a problem with a 5054ci series doing something similar. Kyocera had me set tray 1 to auto/plain and inch and told the customer to tell everyone not to change that tray setting. Kyocera told me that the default for the fax is tray 1. It was set for heavy and there for would not print at all.

He is what their reply was.
Go into the cassette settings /cassette 1 and see if the paper size is set to Letter. If so change it to Auto/Inch, the faxes should then print out.
The issue is “Fax letter” is not 8.2 x 11 so if the tray is set to Letter it confuses the fax.

Somebody had to change it. It did not change itself.
Maybe it's time to change the admin password to something only you and the IT guy knows? At some point the culprit will complain that: "Hey, the password doesn't work anymore?! ... " Oh really ... !

i agree with BC, but to change the media type you don`t need any password.
Enter system menue and select Quick Setup Wizard/ Fax and you can change without any authentification.
Normal users don`t need admin rights, because of this you can set partial lock 1 by U223 for the operation panel.
So, the System Menu will require the Admin password? I read that Service Mode will be inaccessible also. How do you get to service mode with Partial Lock 1 enabled? =^..^=

After thinking about it, it had to be my friend that changed the media setting because, quite frankly, the girls that work in the office aren't smart enough to do it. Also, my friend likes to think he knows more about copiers than he does.
I educated him this morning on the proper settings. I didn't accuse him of creating the problem. I just told him how to fix it if it happens again.
BTW: Thanks, KYO, on the info about the partial lock of the op panel. I'm gonna check that out.

I am always amused when I see a manager or employees (even a tech) say that a person or that group isn't smart enough to get into the menu of a machine and changes some settings.
In my experience, if someone is highly motivated (that is, under a deadline of some kind) and frustrated that the machine won't do what is needed, that person will start pressing buttons trying to figure out with their twisted logic how to navigate the menu and make changes. That person may even do a search on how to get past the user name and login password. These changes will not allow that persons to achieve their goals. So that person walks away frustrated and the machine is changed.
The new problem will go unexplained.
This was particularly common on Canon facsimilie. Most users had no idea what distinctive ring means, but didn't have much difficulty turning it on to see what happens. Then they'd complain that they had to pay the 1 hr minimum charge to change a setting.
I didn't change it. Maybe you should talk to the person that did. =^..^=
