Replacing 302K302170 (FRAME REAR UPPER) on 3011i

Does anyone have experience replacing this particular part? My partner and I have been working on it all day, to no avail. I have removed the bridge and upper drive unit. I am beginning to think this is not a part designed to be replaced in the field. If it is, can anyone give me a short run down on how deeply or what else I must remove in order to replace it correctly? I have successfully gotten the fuser input snapped in place with the cables behind it, but cannot get it closer than a half inch or so flush with where it belongs. Any comments or guidance is very appreciated.

    Thanks.

    This? Number 6:

By all appearances you'd have to fully remove the scanner to access the inside of the rear frame. I can't say that I've ever tried to get to that part.

If you don't mind me asking: why do you need to change that part? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    That's the one!

Someone seems to have snapped an integral part of plastic from the one we removed (most likely by forcing in the fuser incorrectly), and as a result it wasn't properly supporting the fuser. I've never removed a scanner before. Would you suggest that something I attempt without proper guidance from the SM? I've replaced drive units and all diff PWBs but this sounds pretty massive, and of course it's something as simple as a plastic cover.

I've had a number of scanners off. As long as you leave the scanner internal parts alone, there aren't any critical adjustments.

    In broad strokes;
    Remove the DF
    Remove all the covers
    Disconnect harnesses to the scanner
Unbolt the scanner from the main frame

It's probably not something I'd do in a customers office if it were my first time.
