    Kyocera 8002i Fuser Jams

    Hello Everyone,

Can anyone tell me what, exactly, is it in the Kyocera 8002i Fuser that causes paper to stick, or wrap itself within the Fuser, and "accordian" each sheet of paper behind it in the Fuser? It is very difficult to remove the jammed paper without damaging the rollers.

In the Fuser, there is a thin, brass looking plate, that I'm assuming acts as a guide for the paper. Also, on the underside of the Fuser, there is a black strip of paper. Is the jammed paper deforming either of these parts, and causing the "pile-up" of paper in the Fuser?

The event log usually shows this jam in the J42XX range.

    Your thoughts?

Are the images heavy fill, right to the edge of the paper?
Do you have an adequate lead edge void (3mm minimum, on color devices I've used as much as 6mm void)?
Is the paper skewing, such that there is no lead edge void at the operators side or rear of the machine?
Is the image registration or paper registration varying, such that there is no leading edge void?
Are you using the appropriate media settings?
    =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    Thanks for responding,
I apologize for my late answer. I've explained to the users that bold areas of toner, especially at the lead edge, which can cause this jam issue. However, at these schools, the primary end user can explain to teachers not to make prints that have large areas of toner on the lead edge, and the issues it can cause, it's as though this information is being told to a brick wall.

    Thank you for replying!

Oh tell me about it nightmare to remove the jam even with the unit removed from the machine!

I find its usually caused by damp or poor quality paper.

As Blackcat said increasing the blank lead edge helps, if you can get away with it the larger the better.

    Just a followup:
Don't forget the trailing edge void also. If the customer is duplexing, that trailing edge becomes the leading edge back of the paper on the second pass through the fuser.

You can safely assume that the enduser is not going to take any advice that you have to offer, so the best thing to do is make it as idiot-proof as possible, especially at schools.

In one location I defaulted the machine to an 8mm additional image void. They knew perfectly well that copying with the lid up was causing the problem ... but that didn't stop them from doing exactly that. =^..^=
