    CS-4050 Scanning issue

I have a machine that is putting a black streak on the bottom of scans done on the glass, this does not happen when using the doc feed nor printing. If I run the copy landscape on the glass, it doesn't show, but portrait on the glass, it does. This appears to be a fixed location for where this mark shows up. I am leaning towards the laser, but I don't have spares to try out. I've checked to see if the scanner moves without issue and it appears to move just fine when scanning. Any thoughts to what else it may before I try to order a laser? Attached is the example.

I would doubt the laser, more likely DV problem, cracked spacer maybe.

Why would it be a developer issue if this issue only happens when copying on the glass?

I just want to confirm that a single sided document through the document comes out without background, but a single sided document on the glass has the defect.

I think that your assertion is false. You should see this sort of defect as a result of developing, which affects originals off the glass, originals through the document feeder, and prints (internal and external).

Like PrintWhisperer, I think that you've got a worn out developing unit, or possibly poor quality knockoff toner. On this machine toner enters the developing unit only from the front, so it takes a while for the defective toner to work it's way from the front to the back. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yeah it's early and I did read past that and go straight to the sample, which does look typically DV related. (Thanks for the defense BC)

So the implication of what you are saying is that it's a scanner travel and reflection issue on one side. This would mean one side is dragging and jittering enough to deflect the image from the CCD.

Check the 1st mirror sliders, rails and cables, scanner drive movement.

Something people always forget is that this is still a scanner. Scan from the glass to USB and examine the image.

This will isolate the problem between the scanner and the print engine.

Scanner slider would be my guess.
    Hope that helps !

So why don't you isolate the issue 100% before going any further? With all the different opinions on this thread pointing to scanner, developing unit, etc. scan something to file (or USB) from the glass and DP in both letter and landscape orientation. If none of the images show the issue then it is something in the print engine. If you do see the issue, but let's say only in the images scanned through DP, then the issue has something to do with scanning through the DP, which could be scanning position, out or position mylar, etc.
The better you do at troubleshooting and providing that information, the better those on this board will be able to assist you, however, the better you get at troubleshooting you will find that you no longer need assistance.

Why would it be laser ? You've narrowed it down to optics yourself. When scanning through the ADF, the scanner doesn't move. Scanner sliders is really about the only thing it could be.
    Hope that helps !

    Re: CS-4050 Scanning issue

Thanks for all of the replies everyone. I have already isolated it to the scanner (can't USB, not allowing me to store a file, no "store file" button), but this issue literally only happens when I copy from the glass - DP and printing do not have this issue. The scanner slider spacers seem in good condition and the scanner appears to be working without movement hinderance. I took a look at the white reference on the under side of the glass and I noticed that it was dirty enough in that one spot that it may be what is causing it. I don't have another glass to swap out, so I can't test it. Spoke to boss and he's looking into upgrading them.
