    Kyocera Gmail SMTP server issues

I'm not sure if it's only me however there are a few accounts that I have setup Gmail accounts that seem to just randomly stop working and I cant seem to recover the account once it has stopped and I need to keep creating new ones. The last one I just did was still saying it was connecting to the server however when sending mail it would fail. I'm using 2 step authentication and app passwords with a valid recovery phone number. Trying both ports 465/587. Not sure if the customers IP is getting flagged somehow or what. Strangely, It only seems to be happening to the Kyocera models and not KM, Ricoh or HP. Any recommendations?

We have found this is more likely if the password contains part of the email name, like the email being copier-<business name>@gmail.com and the password being copier123, for example. Try using something different and see if that solves the issue. BTW, it's not just Kyocera, it's a gmail thing.

    Just my two cents...

For the last few I have stayed away from account names that begin with words like scan, scanner, copier, printer, info, and any of the usual name for accounts folks have used in the past.

I try to get my customer or IT guy for the customer to make up a name that starts with something like the company initials followed by the zip code (ie abc77002@...) or some such configuration. Especially if they're making up a gmail account for scanning to email.

This is not so important if their only scanning within their domain. But if they wish to scan with the device out of their domain, I now advise to name the account they use in the manner I described above.

Thanks to David and Samanator for the heads up. I had no idea the name of the email account would cause those type of problems.

I use Gmail's IP address instead hostname when I have intermittent connection issues.

The only problem with doing this is that IP can change without notice, and may be different depending on location. We have a customer located here in Savannah GA, but their IT lives in India (I think, that region in any case) and he set up with the IP from there. This caused no end of intermittent errors, which were finally tracked down to time out errors due to the logical distance (many intermediate hops, some failures and redirections).

    Hello,

I think the problem is that gmail has switched to double authentication.
    here is an explanatory video.
