Kyocera M6635cidn gear skipping noise

I have an M6635cidn that's about a year old and only has 14,600 copies on it . It makes a noise like skipping\grinding gears at the start of the copy cycle. The copy quality is great, no jamming at all, nothing blurry, just that noise as the copy starts. It sounds like it's around the fuser area but it's hard to tell with that machine. I can warranty the fuser but I'd like to be sure that's what it is. The machine has so few copies on it everything still looks new. Any help would be great.

Have you looked at the transfer belt unit? We have had a few back up and cause that noise also check developing units for backed up toner as well take a vacuum to the auger sections to remove any backed up toner. Pull out the transfer belt and try turning from hand to see is it recreates the noise.

I'll confirm this. Hopefully you're catching it early though. Usually by the time you hear the noise it has backed up at the waste bottle, and all the way back down the horizontal waste auger, with damaged gears and augers. The quick diagnosis? Open the waste bottle door and remove the waste bottle. Does it look like a toner bomb exploded inside the machine? Bad news ... and it's no small task to remove that auger. =^..^=

Bingo! Yep I went back and checked the belt and sure enough that was it.

I've never personally experienced this problem but if it were me, I'd double check to make sure that waste toner isn't backed up in the auger before it locks up again. Just saying...

It took us 3 calls, the last one taken to the office for the all day takedown/reassembly.

I honestly hope that you are THAT lucky ... but I doubt it. =^..^=

Hopefully it's just the belt unit. The auger on the belt was hard to turn but it wasn't packed up. I vacuumed the toner out of the auger in the belt and the gear skipping went away.

The auger that I was referring to is located on the outside of the left side frame ... looks like this:

Although the auger in the transfer belt unit CAN clog, the one I was referring to is on the outside of the left frame under the HVT board, and power supply. =^..^=

I have had a couple make a noise. The black toner was difficult to get in and out and a tooth was broken on the gear assembly for the lock mechanism for the black toner . Hope yours is only the transfer belt .
