p2040 Toner smudging and not fusing onto paper of first page of print job

    Hello Everyone,

One of my p2040's is malfunctioning. The print on the first page of a job after the printer has been idle for a while is smudging and rubs off easily. Subsequent pages of the same job fuse and print perfectly. So I presume this issue is caused by the fuser roller not reaching the correct operating temperature to fuse the toner onto the first page.

I have checked the thermistor, it's resistance reduces when I apply heat to it, so the thermistor appears to be working ok. I have checked both thermal cut-out pots on the fuser heater circuit as well.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,

    Russell

Is it possible to adjust the fuser temperature setting? I couldn't see this option in the adjust/maintenance menu. Thanks,

That's great! They rarely get 46K. The Teflon sheet dries out, causing jamming usually earlier than 46K. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
          1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
          2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
          3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
          4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
          5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Yep it's the sliding sheet. You either get Jam 42xx, smudges, or a loud popping noise when the drive gear slips due to the drag on the fuser.
            Hope that helps !
