Callback today, yes: C8140. I found a way to duplicate the problem. When copying 20 originals, 3 sets, the first two sets eject correctly. The third set errors out.

I've tested the various switches in sim U241 (TRAY L-LMT, TRAY U-LMT, TRAY MIDDLE, PAP H DOWN). All test OK.
I've tested the tray A lift motor in sim U240 (FINISHER MOTOR/TRAY MT). Up, down, up, down, up, down ... etc. Tests OK.
I've tested the hold down solenoid in sim U240 (FINISHER SOL/HOLDOWN SOL). Click, click, click, click ... xtc. Tests OK.

After watching for a while I can see how it's supposed to work:
    1) tray A homes to upper limit
    2) finisher feeds out multiple pages (1 complete set)
    3) tray A lowers 6mm
    4) hold down solenoid lowers hold downs onto paper
    5) tray A lifts ~2mm to trip paper hold down sensor
    back to 2)

    When it errors:
    1) tray A homes to upper limit
    2) finisher feeds out 1 page
    3) tray A lowers 125mm
    4) error is displayed

I had come to the conclusion that it was a finisher controller error. Just to be thorough I reloaded the firmware. That was the last time I saw the problem.

Hundreds of pages and no errors. So the real question is: Did I fix anything? =^..^=
kyocera has a few bulletins on this code. unfortunately i cannot post them as to my contract.

But i can point out it mentions,
    1. worm gear check for wear .the tray lift gear

    2. Tray not installed properly. there is some mylar to add to better sense the tray.

    3. The solenoid spring correct installation. Check the solenoid spring that it is moving freely. Also in the past some of out techs has replaced the solenoid itself, because of excessive magnetization. sometimes the plunger cannot be removed, its stuck in there magnetized, when in fact it should move freely in and out.
I would replace the solenoid first. just my take.

some kyocera friends may want to pass on those bullentins to you or the forum.

I am a certified kyocera tech with full access to KDA connect, any idea where exactly to look for those bulletins please?
    Thanks in advance!

It's on the ASTEA website. you type the same address www.kdaconnect.com, but you have to use the windows explorer browser. You can alternatively open a ticket by calling kyocera usa and mention the error code. You should ask them about login to the ASTEA website.

When you solve this current problem, post with the fix. It may not be the same fix as three years ago, but then again it could. let the folks know.

I had removed the Tray A drive, and the tray just sat there levitating.

The vertical timing belts were too tight. I released the tensioning screws, let the spring set the tension, then re-tightened the screws. The tray immediately dropped, and moved much more freely. It never returned. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

When you get to the ASTEA site, click on the left hand side, then check the boxes bulletins, QA and resolved cases. Then in the search criteria enter the code
C8140, and click the search on the right hand side this time and all the bulletins ect. would be listed there for you.

No Records Found which means no bulletins for this error code
Anyway, I have not been able to duplicate the problem yet but cleaned the hold down solenoid for now and realigned Tray A. Reloaded also the firmware as per blackcat's notes. If the problem comes back i will update the thread. Thanks everybody for sharing!

Update: The bulletins are not under the bulletins but under Q&A !!

I was just there an hour ago and looked at them. read my previous post. You MUST use microsoft internet explorer and then put the kdaconnect address there. then you choose the service portal. Maybe someone else can help you with this.
