    Overlay printing and Kyocera Ecosys M3645idn

    Dear Colleagues,

    we have a customer who uses olverlay printing for their two different letterheads.
    This means there are two files (for the two different letterheads) saved on a micro sd card (in the PRE folder of the Kyo Folder Structure) which is inserted on the main board of the printer.

    On the printers webinterface under logical printer there are the corresponding prescribe commands too recall the letterhead data from the card on the printer via a RAW port.
    For Example:

    TCP-IP Port 9120
    Start of Job String: !R!;CCPY E;PSRC 100;AMCR E,LOGO; TERM;ENDC;EXIT;

    End of Job String: !R!RES;CCPY D; Exit;

    This prints the data from the file LOGO on the sd card as letterhead overlay on the letter, when you send the print job via RAW port 9120 from the driver (must be the PCL5 driver by the way) .

    Now something has to be changed on the letterhead (bank info etc), meaning that the two files have to be modified.

    When I open one file with Editor I get this: (only a part)

    The guy from another company who has configured all this isn't there anymore and I don't know how this can be done.
    I only know how to setup all this so that it works but I can't program prescribe you know.
    How do I get this file (LOGO here) from the original letterhead from the customer?

    What file format is the letterhead overlay in?

    This should not have anything to do with PreScribe. If your letterhead overlay image is a pdf, or tif, or whatever, create a new letterhead image of whatever you like on that same file format. For simplicity's sake name it the same as the original file that you're replacing. Remove the original file. Copy the new letterhead image onto the SD card.

    If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    The file you have is the Macro built from IC-Link. You can use IC-Link to re-build it, but without the original build files you are out of luck.

    I try to stay out of Prescribe forms because it's clumsy and esoteric. This could be a simple overlay, or maybe there is variable data which needs to be placed and formatted.

    You need a proper Professional Services engagement to re-design the form and the customer has to pay for it. They had a working solution and due to their changes it must be modified.

    Your options are
    1) If you are an authorized Kyo dealer, contact your Business Solutions Rep (your SSE should know who it is) and get a quote.
    2) Sit down with the Prescribe Command reference, IC-Link manual, and Prescribe class in the Learning center and figure it out in a month or 2.
    3) Find a Third-Party solution (Planet Press won't seem so expensive after you get the BSC quote)

    so it isn't as easy as with Konica-Minolta. With KM I generate a .kfo file from my original form (which I must have as a word or pdf file or something) with the printer driver and then
    configure the driver that it uses this kfo file with the print data. It's very easy. Seems the A4 Kyo machines don't have this function at all. Only the big ones like Taskalfa 650C or something?
    The customer does not even have the letterhead form as a word or pdf file as original. Seems the Kyo guy who did this programmed the whole layout of the form with prescribe.
    I've experimented a little bit with IC link and i've managed it to generate a macro from a jpg I believe and was able to call it from the card. It worked but not quite correct.
    Could I generate this macro file with IC link if the customer gave me a word or pdf from his new letterhead form? (Cutomer must let design it from someone).
    And then I need to know with what commands I can call and reset it for each print.

    If the customer gives me his new letterhead as word or pdf document, couldn't I simply convert it into a bitmap or jpeg or png and use the watermark function of the KX driver, where you can put in graphic file as watermark? This would solve the issue too, I guess.
    But I still don't understand why the Kyo drivers don't have an explicit Overlay function like the Konica-Minolta drivers have?
    What is the best tool to convert a word or pdf in a as small as possible file quite loss-free?
