Not being a KyoGuy I have two questions about the fuser of the ECOSYS P2040dn.
1) Is it worth the trouble to replace the film only with after market films?
2) Any instructions please how to remove the fuser unit? I have never seen this printer before, but must go to a remote customer and like to avoid embarrassing situations. Thanks

The main problem with those fusers is the teflon sheet, between the heater and the film. We were a dealer, so we just submitted everything for warranty.
Some of the folks here say removing the teflon sheet, and applying a different lubricant works (like the HP LJ4000 fusers, no teflon sheet), I've never tried it myself.
When the teflon sheet is mostly intact, I have cleaned then applied Toshiba fuser film oil, and it works in the short term. In these cases, I always ordered the new fuser, so it didn't have to last very long. I don't really know how it would last.
It's disappointing that so many manufacturers have chosen to use this technology. =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

Not worth repairing. Tried. Used many different parts and oils / grease. Short term solution. Europe has extended warranty due to fuser failures, so we push everything back. Last month one of Kyo reps told me, this machines are being killed by Kyo, because even newer FK are sh*t.
Have done numerous repairs of these machines and have them back up and running with little issue. The hardest part for me in Australia was getting the grease. I use UniFlor 8172 which is freakishly expensive. I strip all the teflon sheet off. Clean everything with platenclene. Smear ample grease across the guide and re assemble the fuser.
I re-use the OEM Kyo fixing sleeve. Have never had to replace the sleeve.
Don't purchase any of the Chinese fuser greases, they are all rubbish.
Its a 30 minute job, the longest part is cleaning off all the silicon oil during the tear down of the fuser. I also clean the inside of the fixing film with a rag soaked well with platenclene.
There are numerous videos on youtube on removing the fuser unit.

Hey BC, I enjoyed our dinner last year in Novi! I would like to blame manufacturers, too, but as I understand the move from heat "rollers" to "belts" is a result of holy bible Energy Star mandates. Is this true?

That I don't know. I do know that trademarks play a huge role in what technology is used in any particular machine. I was working on Canon in the 90's when they were using the ceramic drums. They were rated for an astounding 2M images, and they could do it too ... if your enduser didn't reach into the machine with sharp implements. And they were crazy expensive: $2,000+ USD. Only Canon & Kyocera used them. When they came down is size, they also came down in price ... with the same caveat: they're easy to scratch.
When I was complaining to the Toshiba Tech Rep about the crappy Toshiba film fusers, he said that the manufacturer is "committed" to using this technology. =^..^=
