    xc4240

Hi have an xc 4240 that stars printing ok, then after short time , makes loud noise. paper starts juddering on exit and then crumples up paper between fuser exit rollers and exit tray. motors seem to drive fine. noise sounds like top tray feed belts jumping. Anyone got any other thoughts.

Is there a jam or error code? =^..^=
If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

No error code.paper does not always jam. paper sometimes exits, but you can see it juddering as the noise gets louder.
have taken top of machine off and inspected the top feed tray/redrive all looks good. when you turn rollers by hand you can see belts jumping.
I suspect problem is drive belts/ top tra.y unit

    Re: xc4240

I had the same problem with a XC 2230 which I believe is very similar to your machine. Indeed the transport belt after the fuser was the issue. After yanking off the plastic top cover with the transport rollers, I found a white plastic bushing was not properly in its housing causing drag on that transport roller. Basically there was no gap between the e-clip and the white bushing on the second transport roller e-clip. The white bushing is located behind the toners and youmight be able to get to it without removing the transport top cover.

    I hope this helps

    Hi tonersniffer.
Had to strip top of machine off and replace top tray assembly.
Machine seems to jam and noise free. Wants to be after doing that.

    Re: xc4240

Had a few of these fail in the past, some with not even 500 pages on the clock. For some
reason the drive belt that’s part of that top cover assy just becomes slack. Last I heard from Lexmark they were aware there was an issue but no fix as of yet.

I know a colleague of mine has had some joy buy adding a cable tie around the belt but a very fiddly job, still easier than having to replace that top cover assy though!
