I'm looking at an old C9800 GA with only 10,000 prints on it, it has a new set of OEM drums and toners, and is printing perfectly, only it was until a few days ago when a couple of times it came up with a 'communication error', restarting the printer got it working, but now it has gone to the 'communication error' and won't start at all.

The service manual says to remove the RAM and the HDD and see if it still has the error, if it does then to replace the CU PCB. I've removed them and it still has the error. The threads I've seen on here though say it is a HDD error and to replace that. It will be hard and expensive to get parts for anyway, or maybe someone has an idea of something else I could try to fix it?
