Kip 7100 - Light/no image left side of page.
Got the call on it a few weeks ago. Opened up the process unit, discovered the LED and the Primary Corona was soiled with toner. Cleaned it, all was well.
Today they called said it's doing the same thing again. Opened it up, soiled again. Cleaned it, runs fine. I've only dealt with that on higher count machines.. What would cause this to happen? Any ideas?
Fairly new machine too, only 15k
Thanks

Not real familiar with this exact model but you might try posting on this website: www.keepitprinting.com
This is an independant bulletin board type website for KIP wide format;

I work on a lot of KIPs and that a bit out of the norm.
In other model KIPs that would be the charge wire causing the issue.
Try replacing it and see it that fixes it.

Try resetting the pressure on the mag roller. It sounds like the regulating roller is letting too much toner through and misting on the charge corona.

Re: Kip 7100 - Light/no image left side of page.
I've only seen one KIP machine being set up by trained techs, so I am no great source of model specific information for them and as such feel free to ignore me.
Still, if you'll take suggestions from the popcorn gallery, on the makes and models I do work on, toner soiling is one of two things:
Most likely the developer material is worn out and needs to be replaced, or
somewhat less likely the toner is bad - that could be either generic toner made by stupid people or the OEM manufacturer had a bad day.
Good luck!

Re: Kip 7100 - Light/no image left side of page.
The KIP has no developer or mag roller, it is a pretty cool machine.
It uses a developer roller to press the toner on to the drum.
This is also why the KIPs do not have any used toner.
They are normally a very clean machine.
I had this happen a couple of times on the older KIP 2000's and like I said it was always the charge wire.
15K is a bit early to replace it, but it might be defective.
I have about 400 KIPs out in the field.

Re: Kip 7100 - Light/no image left side of page.
I was leaning toward the pressure of the DV unit. I have had issues with these in the past mainly on the old 3000 series. I have replaced a couple of the DV rollers before. I never really had an issue with the main corona, I have replaced the unit and the wires before. I may not have clarified in the first post but, It's only soiled on the left side of the unit(s).. Don't know if that matters much.
As a side, I was factory trained on the 3k/5k engine a few years ago. We only have a hand full of 3000/3100 engines in the field. This is "our" first install of a 7100. Fortunately the customer is pretty easy going about it(for now). The first install we did on one was a national account for KMBS and it was a complete disaster to put it nicely..
I'll keep an eye on this one. If it pops up again, I find the solution i'll keep ya'll posted..
Thanks

Try putting a little more tention on the regulation roller spring on the left hand side.

Re: Kip 7100 - Light/no image left side of page.
Well this problem has reared its head again.. This time its worse, now there's a slight ghost image on the left side.
I checked the pressure of the DV unit. Apparently its not as simple as resetting the springy clamp on the side according to the FSM.. But, I took the unit apart and looked at it, looks like the DV roller needs to be replaced because its starting to shine. I ordered the developer maintenance kit. We'll see how it goes.
