HUD spends over $31,000 on dining set for Ben Carson's suite
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Department of Housing and Urban Development is under scrutiny after reports that it spent more than $31,000 on a new dining set for the office suite of HUD Director Ben Carson.
The purchase was revealed by HUD employee Helen Foster, who says she was demoted from her job as chief administrative officer when she refused to approve the funding for the redecoration of Carson's suite, The Hill reports.
Foster filed a whistleblower complaint saying she was pressured by then-acting HUD Secretary Craig Clemmensen in January to "find money" so Carson's wife, Candy Carson, could redecorate the office, even though legally there is a $5,000 limit, according to ABC News.
