Whistleblower Complaint Reportedly Involved Trump’s Pledge To A Foreign Leader
The secret whistleblower complaint that the acting director of national intelligence has refused to hand over to Congress involves President Donald Trump’s “communications with a foreign leader,” The Washington Post reported Wednesday, citing two former U.S. officials familiar with the complaint.

The officials said Trump’s interaction with the foreign leader, whose identity was not disclosed, included a “promise” made by the president that was regarded as concerning by the intelligence official who filed a formal whistleblower complaint with the intelligence community inspector general.

Fact check: From Iran pre-conditions to the weather in North Carolina, Trump made 87 false claims last week
President Donald Trump was relentlessly inaccurate last week -- to the media, to his supporters and to legislators from his own party.

Trump made 87 false claims in all. That is the most in the 10 weeks we have been counting at CNN. It is not, however, an all-time Trump record; he made 240 false claims the week before the 2018 midterm elections, which we counted at the Toronto Star.
Trump made 25 of last week's 87 false claims at his campaign rally in North Carolina, 22 in his speech to a retreat for House Republican members of Congress, 19 on Twitter, 18 in exchanges with reporters, two in a speech to a Historically Black Colleges and Universities conference, and one at a briefing on Hurricane Dorian damage.

Trump bars California from setting auto emissions rules, setting up court fight
President Donald Trump said Wednesday that his administration is barring California from setting its own auto emissions standards, setting up a fresh struggle over the president’s push to unravel restrictions on businesses.

Like Trump is the first President to make a "promise" to a foreign government/ entity. Or talk about something that "might be classified". That one's laughable.

87 False Claims! Deemed false by who? And don't tell me the biased snopes or cnn or PMSnbc. Also laughable. I know he isn't always the most factual, but we're in a time now that EVERYONE is lying for their own gain (politically and personally). You can't tell me the Dems are "Straight-Truthers", because that would be...……..A LIE!

The auto emissions rollback in California is justified. They have some of the strictest requirements for vehicles of any state in the U.S. (a lot of states have emissions testing, but not to the extent that California does), and this makes it almost impossible to get a "cheap" car, out of state purchase, or import. PLUS, even with all these "standards" in place, California leads the nation in Pollution levels (let that sink in). Cali is so far up their own asses that they might as well build their own wall and secede. Just read where they put our neighbor, Iowa, on their state-funded travel ban list. I'm thinking Iowans are holding that distinction with honor!!

As for the Turnberry or ANY Trump hotel that happens to be in close proximity or conveniently available for some people, it is merely another attack on the president with claims of "paying himself" through tax-payer dollars. But GUESS WHAT!? That deal was signed under Obama because it is in such close proximity to the refueling station. A no brainer to most. You can't just Bar people from staying at his properties because he's President now. I smell a hint of jealousy from those watching him SUCCEED! He did well for himself before he was president, he's doing well as president, and will continue to do well after his tenure, and people just can't stand that.

    MORE WINNING
Trump Revoking California Emissions Waiver Will Cost Billions, Fracture U.S. Auto Market
The Trump administration formally revoked California’s ability to set its own vehicle emissions standards today, threatening billions in new costs for American consumers, massive emissions increases, and a fractured market for the United States auto industry.

Energy Innovation modeling finds that the impacts of the Trump administration’s pending federal fuel economy standards freeze will be significantly worse with the loss of California’s waiver, costing consumers up to an additional $160 billion through 2050 and increasing transportation emissions up to an additional 4% in 2035.

The waiver revocation affects roughly 35% of the U.S. auto market – including not only California but the 13 other states plus Washington, D.C. that pledged to follow California’s standards (known as the Section 177 States). This unprecedented move comes even as four major automakers agreed to a compromise deal with California to manufacture vehicles with higher fuel efficiency than the Trump administration’s proposed freeze at 2020 levels.

Considering these significant impacts to consumers, the climate, and the auto industry, revoking California’s waiver will only help benefit oil companies and the Trump administration’s deregulatory agenda.

Revoking California’s waiver hurts consumers by hiking gasoline consumption

    Today In: Business
Trump’s proposed fuel economy standards freeze will be terrible for consumers – but the impacts will be much more severe if California loses its Clean Air Act waiver allowing it to set its own tailpipe emissions standards. The total impacts are uncertain, as automakers could respond to a split auto market in multiple ways, but modeling using the Energy Policy Simulator shows revoking the waiver could cost consumers up to $160 billion.

Net economic costs under Trump GHG emissions standards freeze
Net economic costs under Trump GHG emissions standards freezeENERGY INNOVATION
These costs are a direct result of increased fuel expenses, as the waiver revocation could result in up to 2.9 billion additional barrels of gasoline consumed by drivers.

Net gasoline use under Trump GHG emissions standards freeze
Net gasoline use under Trump GHG emissions standards freezeENERGY INNOVATION
These calculated impacts represent the differences between the two scenarios shown above, represented by the red wedges. With California’s waiver revoked, national impacts will fall on the high end of the calculated ranges. Energy Innovation modeling finds that freezing standards across the entire U.S. would cost consumers up to $400 billion and result in 7.6 billion additional barrels of gasoline burned. Maintaining California’s waiver could limit the impacts to $240 billion and 4.7 billion barrels of gasoline.

Trump’s move is also disastrous for climate change

Revoking California’s waiver authority is also disastrous for climate. Transportation emissions have been the biggest U.S. source of greenhouse gases (GHGs) for three years in a row, meaning cutting auto emissions is key to preventing the worst impacts of climate change. Fuel economy and tailpipe emissions standards are two of the strongest policies available to curb transportation GHG emissions and harmful air pollutants, and revoking California’s waiver is a huge blow to state efforts to limit their environmental and climate impacts. Energy Innovation modeling finds that transportation emissions could increase up to an additional 4% if California loses its waiver, bringing total emissions increases up to whopping 10%.

US transportation sector GHG emissions standards under Trump freeze
US transportation sector GHG emissions standards under Trump freezeENERGY INNOVATION
Automakers support California’s authority and stronger emissions standards

Besides impacting consumers and the climate, the Trump administration’s proposed standards freeze and revocation of California’s waiver will hurt the U.S. auto industry. Automakers and workers have broadly opposed an emissions standards freeze, which would reduce the competitiveness of American auto manufacturing and threaten up to 500,000 jobs.

This opposition was embodied when four major automakers struck their deal on emissions standards with California in an attempt to circumvent the Trump administration’s freeze proposal and ensure regulatory certainty while producing clean and internationally competitive cars. By attempting to remove California’s ability to set stronger standards and discouraging innovative clean technologies, the Trump administration is setting manufacturers up for failure. Less efficient U.S. cars will fall behind cleaner, international vehicles, especially in the face of volatile fuel prices.

Because this automaker-California compromise adds weight to lawsuits threatened by California and other states, the Trump administration launched an antitrust investigation into the four automakers. But no evidence exists that these automakers violated antitrust laws by simply making business decisions to produce efficient vehicles, and many other examples of voluntary agreements between automakers and government have not been considered antitrust. The investigation only serves to intimidate automakers who may support California’s authority and protect the administration’s actions against legal challenges.

Trump’s deregulatory agenda hurts American consumers, businesses, and the climate

While the Trump administration’s latest move will prompt extensive litigation and will likely be held up in court, revoking California’s waiver is an unprecedented move against states’ rights that would only cement the harmful effects of an emissions standards freeze. Consumers will pay billions more in fuel costs and transportation emissions will rise as a result.

American auto manufacturing will also suffer, even though the auto industry has made it clear they support California’s authority to set its own emissions standards and oppose a fuel efficiency freeze. And according to the Trump administration’s own analysis, it will cost Americans 60,000 jobs, although industry experts predict even higher job losses. While the Trump administration claims this move benefits American citizens, it’s clear the real winner here is the fossil fuel industry.

I guess there is nothing stopping any car manufacturer to make their cars as green as they want. Nobody telling them they have to roll back. If the people want green cars and if they want electric they will buy them. Instead of the government forcing things down our throats that no one wants. If people are really so concerned about climate change how come every house does not have solar on it,a windmill out back and a electric car in the driveway?

So you are OK with living in choking smog from tailpipe emissions like Beijing, China currently experiences due to lax gov't regulations on the for profit auto and oil industry? By the way, screw your children's future air quality to save a buck today.

Maybe you should be paying more attention to what is happening in your own country. Blackface/brownface was considered racist many years before 2001 so Trudeau's claim he did not know that it was racist is totally bogus.

I really do not care what happened 18 years ago well before Trudeau was Prime Minister and it will have no impact on how I vote. You are merely throwing sh!t against the wall to distract from the daily growing environmental threats facing North America and the world. For decades, California has forced the North American auto industry to take a higher path towards safety and clean air standards.

President Trump has not won this auto emissions battle, California is already prepared to counter sue.

Automakers cannot change the way they plan to make future cars based on every whim that the President has before he is impeached or looses re-election within 14 months.

Re: Just how Crazy is Donald Trump!

Which car would you rather drive 51 miles per gallon or 37 miles per gallon?

Several major automakers have already laid out plans to expand production of electric vehicles and other high-mileage models, despite Trump's rollback, and 14 states plus the District of Columbia have adopted the tougher California standards.

With a presidential election coming in barely 14 months, and the re-election chances of the current president far from certain, automakers realize a new, Democratic administration could reenact tough mileage rules. That said, there is general support for adopting a single mileage standard.

Trump claims Nobel Peace Prize is rigged against him
President Donald Trump on Monday revived his beef with the selection committee that awards the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming that the process is rigged against him.

Speaking to reporters before a bilateral meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, Trump asserted that “I would get a Nobel Prize for a lot of things, if they give it out fairly, which they don't.”

Trump was discussing the latest developments in the disputed region of Kashmir, which is sandwiched between India and Pakistan and which India has clamped down control over for the last several months. After Trump advertised himself as “an extremely good arbitrator," a foreign reporter suggested that should Trump successfully broker peace, he would “very likely and definitely” receive the Nobel Peace Prize.
