    Stupid Armadillos

I have a friend in Florida that is having a problem with armadillos digging up her yard. Apparently she's tried to repel them with mothballs and cayenne pepper, but that didn't work.
So does anybody have a more effective suggestion of how to repel them? I already asked about fire, and that appears to be a non starter.

From what I remember about living in Texas, cars and roads seem to take a lot of them out. Has your friend considered swapping pavement for grass?

    Nasty little critters.

They are actually carriers of Leprosy, which can be transmitted to humans.

I would avoid mothballs unless she really wants a lot of dead cats.
Cayenne pepper can be effective if applied properly and watered into the soil.
With all repellents, commercial and homemade, they need to be reapplied at regular intervals, frequently weekly.

I have also heard that a resident large predatory animal such as a cougar is quite effective. Some stores sell repellents made from their urine that can make pest animals think they are entering the territory of one.

Here is a link to a commercial site that also has some a few recommended home remedies.

I had a problem with bandicoots digging up lawn looking for grubs, made it look like a WW1 battlefield. One night just to make the neighbours laugh I put up a sign that said "Das Bandicoot is Verboten" and much to my surprise it worked and they moved on somewhere else.
