It was just a simpleton mistake.

Uncle SAM plays regular war games in our local military training area.
They're known for accidentally pressing the wrong button and dropping ordinances in the local fishing zones,
right where the fishing trawlers and recreational boaties go.

The locals must complain first before USAM will go out an clear up their oops....

I cracked on them about that one day. I was informed that they were trained to kill people and take over countries, not run office equipment. I replied that they were doing a hell of a job.

Now I have to contribute a story:

I took a call on a Mita DC-2055 if anybody remembers what that looks like. The call was for 1/2 copies, and indeed the front half of the image was completely absent.

This was a lawyers office ... so you can imagine what I found. The letter opener which lawyer X likes conveniently balanced on the edge of the scanner fell in the single feed bypass tray and slide gradually down as far as it would go ... until its hardened steel tip touched the drum. Just like a mill, the letter opener quickly cut the drum in half near the center. Since the drive comes from the rear, the rear 1/2 of the drum still made pretty nice copies. The front half didn't turn at all.

The repair was simple. And as I was writing the bill (service contracts do not cover this), I explained that they might choose to store their letter opener in a different place. Nope! Lawyer X puts it right back on the edge of the scanner, right over the bypass tray.

What can you say to logic like that? =^..^=
