If they were smart enough to realize they were eating cloned meat made in a laboratory, since 2008, they may change their minds about eating the meat.

    The Freedom Rock

The Fayette County Freedom Rock has been complete since last year, but a broken computer and busy Legislative Session has put off the posting of the last few rocks… so here we go. Fayette is a quaint little Iowa town anchored by a historic university. I stayed just off campus and enjoyed the small town feel.

In fact, I stayed just down the hill from Old Main, or the Alexander/Dickman Building, which is featured on their Freedom Rock. The coloring of the rock reminded me of the exterior of the building, so I thought that would be a great use, and place for the rock to shine through. This famed, simple, Neoclassical style is one of the largest and and best preserved native stone buildings still in use in Iowa.

Company C was primarily made up of students from Upper Iowa University. Early in the summer of 1861 the students organized a company for drill, calling themselves "University Recruits," and resolved: "That whenever the occasion demands it we will drop our books to fight our county's battles."

Henry J. Grannis was chosen unanimously to be Sergeant Color-Bearer for Company C, the 12th Iowa Volunteer Infantry and he proudly fulfilled his duty in 27 battles and skirmishes, holding the impressive position of being the only flag-bearer, Union or Confederate, to persevere the entirety of the Civil War without injury. It was said about him “that no man could exhibit more heroism than was exhibited by Henry Grannis, the farmer boy of Fayette county. In one battle---Tupelo----when his entire color-guard was either killed or wounded, he took up and held in the Southern breeze the State banner and the United States flag.” The flag he carried at the Battle of Shiloh was made by women at Upper Iowa.

Dr. Charles Coleman (C. C.) Parker, a doctor in Fayette, IA, served as a Civil War surgeon at the Battle of Shiloh, answering the call from friend and personal acquaintance President Lincoln. As the Regimental Surgeon of the 12th Iowa at Shiloh, Parker oversaw a battle that suffered enormous losses and disease. When illness and incapacity threatened his own life, Dr. Parker was forced to resign and returned to Fayette, where he taught the Natural Sciences at Upper Iowa.

William Larrabee was the 13th governor of the State of Iowa. In Iowa, Larrabee taught school for a few years, but soon after his arrival established himself as a successful miller, banker, and farmer in Clermont. He attempted to enlist at the outbreak of the Civil War, but was rejected on account of his disability. Although he couldn’t enlist, he helped recruit the locals for service and provided free flour to soldier’s wives (he owned a flour mill). He spent much of his life dedicated to supporting Union Veterans and their causes. As Governor, he fought for Veterans pensions and other programs in support of them.

David B Henderson was an Upper Iowa University student from Clermont, IA that was a Civil War veteran and ten-term Republican Congressman from Dubuque, Iowa, was the Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 1899 to 1903. He was the first Congressman from west of the Mississippi River, the last Civil War veteran, the second foreign-born person (after Charles Frederick Crisp), and so far the only Iowan to serve as Speaker. He began his service by initially enlisting in the Union Army in 1861, as a private in Company C, 12th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment. In the Battle of Fort Donelson, he was shot in the neck in the final charge over the breastworks. After returning to the Regiment in April 1862, he lost one foot and part of one leg at the Second Battle of Corinth in October 1862. He was discharged on February 26, 1863 due to his wounds, and returned to Iowa. He rejoined again as a Colonel of new 46th Iowa Volunteer Infantry Regiment, and was mustered out finally in 1864.

For those familiar with my work, I often include eagles, but this time, because of the Civil War history connected with the university, I included a peacock (Upper Iowa’s mascot) to commemorate the service and sacrifice of those former students, staff and professors. Also, Old Glory flows over the top in honor of all who’ve served our country.

I hope to follow this up with the remaining rocks from last late last year before I start the original Freedom Rock, and finishing up Iowa's last four counties.

Appreciate all you Freedom Rockers out there, and as always, thank you Veterans, for serving our country!

AFTER A YEAR PORTLAND MAYOR IS FINALLY OVER THE MOB BURNING DOWN THE CITY
    by GARY SHEFFIELD, JR

Just an hour after the prosecution of Derek Chauvin for the murder of George Floyd, riots began in Portland and somehow their mayor, Ted Wheeler, wasn’t having it after blaming Trump the past year. Guess all it took was Biden being sworn in, swelling gas prices, and further destruction of downtown Portland despite getting the verdict they demanded.

Life long bozos like Ted Wheeler will never take an ounce of accountability for the unrest of their cities and it’s hard to watch.

Mayor Wheeler has extended the state of emergency in Portland through noon Monday. He asks members of the public to get license plates of people dressed all in black and report them to the police. "Our job is to unmask them, arrest them and prosecute them." pic.twitter.com/QsW73Me9fL

    — PDX Frontline Alerts (@pdxfrontline) April 23, 2021
“The city is beginning to recover, but self-described anarchists who engage in regular criminal destruction don’t want things to open up, to recover,” Wheeler said to the media. “They want to prevent us from doing the work of making a better Portland for everyone. They want to burn, they want to bash.”

Man, we told ya so? But what’s important here is to understand that Portland’s mayor didn’t just randomly have a lightbulb go off. He’s aware of the real enemy — he just didn’t like Donald Trump. Our former president was opening the eyes of Americans to our true enemy and that was a direct threat to the agenda of Ted Wheeler. Portland’s “leader” just plays musical chairs of the blame game and it works like a charm to there people. Unless, of course, you want to live a healthy or safe life. Then it sucks.

The thing is: No one actually cares about Portland anymore. It’s officially a wasteland for intentionally unemployed losers that get off on the downfall of America. No need to celebrate an opened economy or breakaway from masks because that means you have to get a job. Nothing the hoodlums destroying Portland would enjoy less than a job.

    Reap what they sow
This is the domino effect of poor leadership and hoodwinked civilians allowing their city to have their hand on the wheel for everything. Want protection from covid, from murderous police officers, or from gang violence?

Mayor Ted Wheeler has got you covered, Portland.

If you want leadership that works for the people and doesn’t push intentionally asinine agendas for power, then move to a conservative state. Oh yeah, and don’t forget to start voting the way we do, too. Probably the most important part.

NRCC Poll: Republicans Projected to Regain House Majority in Midterm Elections, Pelosi Remains the Most Unpopular Politician

An internal survey of battleground congressional seats from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) found Republicans are poised to take back the House in the upcoming midterm elections.

The April battleground survey also found House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) is the most unpopular politician in the country. Previously, the NRCC’s February polling found Pelosi was the most unpopular politician with a 41 percent favorable and a 52 percent unfavorable rating. This month, Pelosi’s image dropped to 38 percent favorable and 56 percent unfavorable. Punchbowl News reported this is in part due to Republicans who “have spent tens of millions of dollars demonizing Pelosi during the last two decades.”

Additionally, the survey also found Pelosi hits 60 perfect unfavorable in “Trump/Democratic districts.” According to the NRCC press release, “Democrats in these districts are going to have an uphill battle defending their decisions to vote in lockstep with Pelosi’s socialist agenda.”

The survey was conducted between April 18-21. It consisted of 1,000 voters across 85 Battleground Congressional Districts and included an oversample in 16 ticket-splitting districts. Polling was conducted 65 percent over a cell phone, 15 percent from a landline, and 20 percent online.

Republicans continue to show they are in a good position to regain the House majority in the midterm elections. In ticket-splitting districts, the survey found 54 percent want “a Republican who will be a check-and-balance to Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats’ agenda in Congress.” Just 41 percent want “a Democrat who will help Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats pass their agenda in Congress.”

Moreover, the NRCC poll showed Democrats misplaced their faith in the improving economy to maintain the House majority and the presidency. Of the voters surveyed, a majority put their trust in “Republicans over Democrats in Congress on jobs and the economy.” The voters overall said they support Republicans by five more points. Forty-six (46) percent supported the Republicans, while only 41 percent supported the Democrats. When Independents were asked, 42 percent put their trust in Republicans over 31 percent in Democrats.

It's easy to increase the minimum wage when it's the tax payer footing the bill. What you didn't include is that the minimum wage for these contracts will be indexed to inflation so that every year after 2022 it will be automatically adjusted to reflect changes in the cost of living. So the more the government taxes and spends, the more these federal contract workers will make. In the public sector, raises are performance based. In the government, I guess raises are based on inflation caused by their own poor economic policies. No one should be insulated from the forces of a free market.

.... many federal jobs are short term seasonal jobs that end on a specific date. I am sure many summer students or seasonal workers will be please to get paid $15.00 hour.

Almost as good as Amazon wages but not nearly as hard on your body.
