When the state and local deductions were legal, governments of Democratic-run states like Pelosi’s California and deep-blue New York could tax their wealthy residents without worrying too much because those taxes could just be written off on the federal tax bill.
Once the reform kicked in, the tax bills on wealthy liberals started to bite.
The Democrats who control the House of Representatives under Pelosi’s malicious reign would like nothing more than to be able to use that power to restore the deduction — so the country’s richest liberals could go back to hiding behind high state taxes to reduce their federal bill. (Liberals love high taxes when everyone else is paying them.)
But with Republicans still firmly in control in the Senate, Pelosi’s push isn’t likely to get much further than her own chamber.

Army Warned in Early February That Coronavirus Could Kill 150,000 Americans
While the president was still downplaying the COVID-19 epidemic, an Army briefing shared with The Daily Beast shows the service warning of the scale of death Trump now concedes.
This week, as coronavirus deaths in the U.S. spiraled up to surpass those killed on 9/11, the White House is conceding that an optimistic assessment of the coming death toll will leave between 100,000 and 240,000 Americans dead. But if the White House had heeded an Army warning nearly two months ago, it might have prompted earlier action to prevent an outbreak that threatens to kill more Americans than two to four Vietnam Wars.
An unclassified briefing document on the novel coronavirus prepared on Feb. 3 by U.S. Army-North projected that “between 80,000 and 150,000 could die.” It framed the projection as a “Black Swan” analysis, meaning an outlier event of extreme consequence but often understood as an unlikely one.
In other words, the Army’s projections on Feb. 3 for the worst-case scenario in the coronavirus outbreak are, as of this week, the absolute best-case scenario—if not a miraculous one.
A month after the Army’s briefing, on March 4, President Trump told Fox News host Sean Hannity that the World Health Organization’s coronavirus death estimate of 3.4 percent of cases was a “false number,” since it contradicted a “hunch” he had. “It’s not that severe,” the president said.
The document made it to high levels within U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM), the military command responsible for operations in North America and which aided civilian agencies’ early responses to evacuating and quarantining Americans abroad.

It came during a Scarborough interview with Obamacare architect Ezekiel Emmanuel.
“We’ve heard, Zeke Emanuel, that nobody could have seen this coming,” the MSNBC host said regarding the COVID-19 crisis.
“The fact is, everybody saw this coming. Everybody saw this coming in early January.”
This is either one prescient man or someone who is lying about what he knew and when he knew it. The answer, unsurprisingly, is the latter.
In late January, medical contributor Dr. Dave Campbell appeared on “Morning Joe.” He was asked by co-host Mika Brzezinski about whether viewers should be panicking regarding the outbreak, then mostly thought to be confined to China.
“No, Americans do not need to panic,” Campbell said.
“The Chinese are already panicking — as they should, because this virus is spreading all through the central parts of China, and it’s a new virus. It has never been seen before, so its mechanism of spreading is not quite known yet.
“What I would suggest, however, is that Americans take this as a wake-up call for seasonal flu. We are not out of the flu season. We’ve already had 15 million cases of the flu in the U.S., 140,000 hospitalizations, 54 children have died. Almost as many as have died from the novel coronavirus and everybody’s not vaccinated yet.
“Even if you get vaccinated and get the flu, it lowers the complication rate from the flu,” he continued.
“So we don’t need to be overly concerned yet in the United States about the novel coronavirus, we do need to keep our eyes open for the seasonal flu. We’re right in the middle of the flu season still.”

If Scarborough, an outspoken critic of President Donald Trump, was among the “everybody” who knew what was coming in early January, why would he have a medical contributor on talking about how the real culprit would be the seasonal flu? If Scarborough was so well informed, after all, this would be disinformation.
And, as The Intercept’s Glenn Greenwald pointed out, it’s not as if Scarborough’s Twitter account evinces a man consumed with coronavirus fears, either. In fact, he was much more preoccupied with a different set of topics.

Medical Expert Sees 'Beginning of the End' in Coronavirus Fight with New Treatment Results
Dr. Stephen Smith, founder of the Smith Center for Infectious Diseases and Urban Health in East Orange, New Jersey, said the remarkable results he is seeing in his coronavirus patients using a combination of the anti-malaria drug hydroxychloroquine and the antibiotic azithromycin marks the “beginning of the end” of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Appearing on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” on Wednesday night, Smith said not a single patient he has been treating with the combination over a five-day period has had to be placed on a ventilator.
“The chance of that occurring by chance, according to my sons Leon and Hunter, who did some stats for me, are .000-something,” he said, adding that “it’s ridiculously low.”
The doctor told host Laura Ingraham he was currently treating 72 COVID-19 patients.
“It’s a game-changer. It’s an absolute game-changer,” he said, arguing his findings support what a French researcher’s study determined.
“I think this is the beginning of the end of the pandemic. I’m very serious,” said Smith, whose facility is in the New York metropolitan area, the U.S. hotspot for the coronavirus outbreak.

Similarly, Dr. Mehmet Oz told Fox News host Sean Hannity on Wednesday that the Chinese have conducted a “randomized trial” with hydroxychloroquine after noticing that none of the patients taking the drug for lupous and rheumatoid arthritis were contracting the coronavirus.
The study consisted of 62 COVID-19 patients in which researchers gave half of them hydroxychloroquine over a five-day period, Oz said.
“What they realized was pretty interesting,” he said.
“First off, the symptoms. The temperature, the fevers, instead of lasting three days, in a typical illness, it only lasted two days,” while coughing also went from three to two days for the people receiving the drug, Oz said.
