New York Times Suffers Significant Drop in New Subscribers

The New York Times suffered a significant drop in new subscribers in the first quarter of the year, adding fewer new subscribers than it averaged per quarter last year.
The “Gray Lady” added 167,000 net new digital news subscribers in the first quarter compared to the 415,250 per quarter it averaged last year, The Hill reported.
Despite this drop, The Times believes that subscriber growth will return to what it was prior to 2020.

“There is no doubt that the news cycles of the last five years, capped by last year’s tumultuous presidential elections, racial reckoning and the COVID-19 pandemic created unprecedented demand for Times journalism and therefore accelerated subscription,” New York Times Company CEO and President Meredith Kopit Levien said in an earnings call with investors.
“In February and March, our audiences declined from their historic highs last year, and we saw fewer net subscription additions in the latter part of the quarter.”

Prior to 2020, 2019 was the best year for net subscription additions, according to The Times’ company report announcing the results of the first quarter.
“We’ve made a sizable and sustained investment in our journalistic engine — an engine that powers the largest and most successful digital subscription business in journalism,” the report read.

“While we don’t know which storylines will drive the next big news cycle, we do know that the size of our newsroom, its range of expertise, and our continued investment in meeting more needs position us to capture that demand, whatever its source.”
Kopit Levien had previously pointed out that the growth in new subscribers in the last year was driven by the unpredictable news cycle and could not be expected to continue at the same rate, The Hill reported.

Even though the number of news subscribers grew by less than it had been last year, the number still grew from 5.1 million news-only subscribers at the end of 2020 to roughly 5.3 million at the end of the first quarter.
Total subscribers also grew from 7.5 million at the end of 2020 to 7.8 million in the first quarter of 2021.
“While total audience registered readers on site and subscriber engagement are somewhat lower this year than last, these metrics are all higher than in 2019,” Kopit Levien said.

The company’s overall revenue was reported to be $473 million in the first quarter, an increase of 6.6 percent compared to the first quarter of 2020. That figure includes $329.1 million in subscription revenue.
While people who subscribed in 2020 may be less likely to renew their subscriptions, Kopit Levien said she is happy with the newspaper’s subscriber retention.

“When we compare ourselves to other content-based digital media companies, we think our churn or our overall retention [rate] and monthly churn are at a world-class level,” Kopit Levien said.
“I’d say that the newest cohort, you know a huge surge in new [subscriptions] last year, the newest cohort folks who came in last year are retaining slightly less well than in the past, but I’d say not in a troubling way.”
The Times expects total subscription revenues to increase by approximately 15 percent in the second quarter compared to the second quarter of 2020.

AOC touts 'how many lives Planned Parenthood has saved' despite its hundreds of thousands of abortions annually

She doesn't really know what the hell PPH does, they don't hand out vitamins for pregnant women, they whore OUT those services to actual DOCTORS! Just proves she is NOT in tune with ANYTHING!

Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (N.Y.) on Thursday ironically championed Planned Parenthood, the nation's largest abortion provider, as a heroic life-saving organization.

During a virtual House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing titled, "Birthing While Black: Examining America's Black Maternal Health Crisis," the progressive lawmaker passionately defended the organization, which performs hundreds of thousands of abortions annually.
"I don't want to hear a single person on this committee or outside of this committee talk about valuing life when they continue to uphold the death penalty, when they continue to support policies that disproportionately incarcerate and lead to the deaths of black men and people throughout this country and uphold an absolutely unjust medical system that exists for profit that allows people to die because they can't afford to live," Ocasio-Cortez said, taking potshots at conservatives.
"If we want to talk about Planned Parenthood," she continued, "let's talk about how many lives Planned Parenthood has saved and how many babies have been born because of the prenatal care provided by Planned Parenthood."
Ocasio-Cortez then revealed that she is a "Planned Parenthood baby," presumably meaning her mother used the organization's prenatal care services while she was pregnant with her.

"So if we are concerned about life, we don't get to talk about anyone else who's not concerned about the whole spectrum of that when we are upholding policies that kill people," she concluded.
According to Planned Parenthood's 2019-2020 annual report, the health care provider performed 354,871 abortions in the span of just one year. During the same period of time, Planned Parenthood offered only 8,626 prenatal services.
The organization lists millions of other services provided, such as contraceptive counseling, pregnancy tests, and cancer screenings, allowing it to say that abortions only amount to 3% of the services it provides.

In her remarks, Ocasio-Cortez was keen to bring up race and specifically the discrimination that many black Americans allegedly face in the country's medical and criminal justice systems. However, the congresswoman conveniently made no mention of the fact that black Americans are disproportionately affected by the abortion industry.
In 2008, the Guttmacher Institute, a pro-choice research organization, reported that historically in the U.S., "the abortion rate for black women is almost five times that for white women." That is, despite only accounting for 14% of the childbearing population, black women obtained 36% of reported abortions, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Maybe she should research the REASON PPH was formed and by whom. Margaret Sanger started PPH to rid the country of the "trash" babies.... meaning BLACK BABIES.

“The disappointing jobs report makes it clear that paying people not to work is dampening what should be a stronger jobs market,” the U.S. Chamber of Commerce said. “One step policymakers should take now is ending the $300 weekly supplemental unemployment benefit. Based on the Chamber’s analysis, the $300 benefit results in approximately one in four recipients taking home more in unemployment than they earned working.”

So far, Joe Biden has been an absolute hindrance to the growth of the U.S.A.

but yet the liberals try to paint this picture soooo rosey... IMHO it's a total failure ... add to that the 18,000 pipeline workers that lost jobs with SnifferJoe's first few days in office.. not to mention the loss of revenue from the pipeline alone... then the loss of oil due to his restrictions on exploring for new oil deposits in AK ... NC (offshore) ..
It's like he is on a downward race to force us to by the more expensive Muslim oil. But seeing how he is bending America over for the Mullahs I wonder what kickbacks he expects from them.. maybe a future Job for his crackhead son?

    So it was all bullshit!

Trump Issues Fiery Statement After Feds Drops Long-Running Case Against Him: 'Law and Justice in Our Country at Its Lowest!'

Former President Donald Trump released a statement after the Federal Election Commission dropped its investigation Thursday regarding whether he violated election law in relation to a $130,000 payment made by his former attorney Michael Cohen to Stormy Daniels before the 2016 presidential election.
“The Federal Election Commission in Washington, D.C., has totally dropped the phony case against me concerning payments to women relative to the 2016 Presidential Election,” the former president wrote Friday.
“It was a case built on lies from Michael Cohen, a corrupt and convicted lawyer, a lawyer in fact who was so corrupt he was sentenced to three years in jail for lying to Congress and many other things having nothing to do with me.

“I thank the Commission for their decision, ending this chapter of Fake News. Between two sleazebag lawyers, Michael Avenatti and Michael Cohen, we were all able to witness law and justice in our Country at its lowest!”
The 2-2 vote effectively closed the investigation, according to The New York Times.

Cohen was convicted in 2018 of tax evasion, lying to Congress and other charges relating to the payments, including to Daniels, an adult film star whose real name is Stephanie Clifford. He was sentenced to three years in prison, according to Politico, but released early last year.
Two Democrats, FEC Chair Shana M. Broussard and Commissioner Ellen L. Weintraub, opposed closing the case.

They released a statement saying, “There is ample evidence in the record to support the finding that Trump and the Committee knew of, and nonetheless accepted, the illegal contributions at issue here.
“Indeed, Cohen provided testimony under penalty of perjury that Trump not only knew about the payment but himself directed Cohen to orchestrate the scheme.”

They added, “To conclude that a payment, made 13 days before Election Day to hush up a suddenly newsworthy 10-year-old story, was not campaign-related, without so much as conducting an investigation, defies reality.
“But putting that aside, Cohen testified under oath that he made the payment for the principal purpose of influencing the election. This more than satisfies the Commission’s ‘reason to believe’ standard to authorize an investigation.”
Republicans argued in their own statement “that pursuing these matters further was not the best use of agency resources.”

They added, “The Commission regularly dismisses matters where other government agencies have already adequately enforced and vindicated the Commission’s interests.”
Cohen, meanwhile, blamed Trump via Twitter on Thursday, accusing him of guilt in the matter.

Despite Cohen’s accusations and Democratic attacks, Trump has continued to deny any wrongdoing.
“I never directed Michael Cohen to break the law,” Trump tweeted in 2018, according to USA Today. “He was a lawyer and he is supposed to know the law.”

“The facts are well known to all. The hush money payment was done at the direction of and for the benefit of Donald J. Trump. Like me, #Trump should have been found guilty. How the FEC committee could rule any other way is confounding.” ⁦@nytimeshttps://t.co/DxvgcDFyVQ
