Can you get COVID-19 through the eyes?

It all comes down to the mucosal membranes. Mucosal membranes line our nose, mouth and upper airways. They help protect us from exposures to the environment when we eat, drink and breathe.
However, the virus that causes COVID-19 (called SARS-CoV-2) can use the cells of that mucosal lining as an entry point.
Droplets too small to perceive can land on the eyes or eyelids, or be accidentally deposited when you rub your eyes with unclean hands. Tears from our eyes drain into the nasal cavities, which is part of the upper respiratory system. This process can cause deposits of the virus on the eyelids to be washed into the respiratory system.

Some infectious disease experts have suggested that wearing goggles or a face shield may provide an added layer of protection against the COVID-19 virus.

If everyone wore a mask when they are supposed to the chances of being infected with covid19 would be greatly reduced. Goggles and face shields are just more tools available to people.

Study Shows ‘CoVID Lockdowns Have No Clear Benefit’ Compared to ‘Voluntary Measures’



A new report published by Newsweek Magazine Friday revealed latest international studies showed “CoVID lockdowns have no clear benefit” when compared to “voluntary measures” taken by private citizens.


“A new study evaluating COVID-19 responses around the world found that mandatory lockdown orders early in the pandemic did not provide significantly more benefits to slowing the spread of the disease than other voluntary measures, such as social distancing or travel reduction,” writes the publication.

The study was conducted by a group of researchers at Stanford University.
“We do not question the role of all public health interventions, or of coordinated communications about the epidemic, but we fail to find an additional benefit of stay-at-home orders and business closures,” the research added.

The important term in what you replied is "helps." In and of itself, mask wearing does not stop infection. Maintaining a safe distance of at least 10 feet or more from anyone who might be infected is the only thing that will.
