Bitcoin conference attendees report testing positive for Covid after returning from Miami

Some of the 12,000 attendees who flew into Miami last weekend for the biggest bitcoin event in history have started testing positive for Covid.

Bitcoin 2021 drew crypto enthusiasts from around the world to the Mana Wynwood convention center in Miami’s arts and entertainment district. For three days, conference goers packed into crowded auditoriums, glad-handed and hugged. It was the first major conference since the pandemic started, and many attendees said they were relieved to be out among colleagues trading news and updates.

There was no mask mandate and no proof of vaccination requirement to attend. Covid was only a talking point in the context of how thrilled everyone was to have arrived at the other side of the pandemic.

Whether the conference is ultimately billed as a super spreader event remains to be seen.

It is unclear how many people have been affected and whether the city of Miami had a contingency plan in place for this kind of outcome.

On Tuesday, Florida said it will no longer report daily Covid cases and fatalities as vaccinations rise and it begins shifting to the “next phase” of the pandemic. Florida reported an average of eight new cases per 100,000 residents over the past week, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, far below its pandemic high of 84 per 100,000.

... COVID is far from over in the USA or anywhere else in the world. The only difference is between those who are vaccinated and those who are dumb enough to want to mingle with groups of people and not be vaccinated.

COVID does not give a rat's ass about politics, it just seeks it's next victim.

... it is mandatory where I live. All retail businesses will challenge you at the door prior to entry.

No mask, no entry to grocery stores, no WalMart, no Home Depot, etc.

Nobody complains.

It is expected that not until 70% of the population is vaccinated in approx Aug/ Sept can masks come off.

Stopped for the ice cream truck.
Didn't even get a nasty eye from anyone.

... I expect to get my 2nd vaccine shot within 30 days.

Once the local gov't declares it is OK not to wear a mask, I will do so.

Everybody wants to return to their own normal.

I do notice a lot of people are wearing masks outdoors while socially distanced. I think some people enjoy the anonymity.

CDC holding emergency meeting on heart inflammation in young males after COVID shot



The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s COVID-19 vaccine advisory committee will attend an emergency meeting next week to discuss higher than expected reports of heart inflammation in young males who received their second dose of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines.


The June 18 meeting will address the conditions that are very rare and have not been directly linked to the vaccines.


As of May 31, the agency has received 275 preliminary reports of the heart inflammation — known as myocarditis and pericarditis — among 16 to 24-year-olds, CDC’s Dr. Tom Shimabukuro said Thursday.

"It’s a bit of an apples-to-oranges comparison because, again, these are preliminary reports. Not all these will turn out to be true myocarditis or pericarditis reports," Shimabukuro said, according to CBS News.
