Biden to mandate mask-wearing on federal land in executive order
Biden’s order will also urge states to enact their own mandates
By Morgan Phillips | Fox News
President Biden was sworn into office Wednesday, and one of his first priorities will be to sign an executive order urging Americans to wear masks for 100 days and requiring them on federal property.
His first executive order, the "100-day masking challenge," will require masks and social distancing in all federal buildings, on all federal land and by federal employees and contractors, and on airlines, trains and transit systems traveling between states.
While a president cannot tell state and local officials what to require, Biden’s order will urge states to enact their own mandates. Most states have already done so.

President Joe Biden released details of his Covid response plan, including 10 executive orders and his intent to use the Defense Production Act.
The plan expands on initiatives outlined last week and details how Biden plans to bring the pandemic under control and help the country recover.
Biden will seek to accelerate the rollout of Covid-19 vaccines by providing more funding to local and state officials, creating more vaccination sites and launching a national education campaign.
On his first full day in office, President Joe Biden released details Thursday of his sweeping plan to combat the coronavirus, announcing 10 executive orders and directing agencies to use wartime powers to require U.S. companies to make N95 masks, swabs and other equipment to fight the pandemic.
The president's plan emphasizes ramping up testing for the coronavirus, accelerating the pace of vaccinations and providing more funding and direction to state and local officials. A key component of the plan is restoring trust with the American public. It also focuses on vaccinating more people, safely reopening schools, businesses and travel as well as slowing the spread of the virus.
"The National Strategy provides a roadmap to guide America out of the worst public health crisis in a century," the plan says. "America has always risen to the challenge we face and we will do so now."
Biden has taken office at a pivotal moment in the pandemic, many epidemiologists and U.S. health officials say. Nearly 3,000 Americans are dying every day of Covid-19, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University, and newly discovered, more infectious strains are establishing footholds in the U.S., threatening to push the nation's outbreak to even more deadly heights. The plan released Thursday expands on initiatives outlined last week and details how Biden plans to bring the outbreak under control and help the country recover.

Coronavirus updates: Single-dose vaccine from Johnson & Johnson could be 'game changer'; Biden to require masks on planes
JOHN BACON AND ELINOR ASPEGREN | USA TODAY | 16 minutes ago
The first COVID case in the U.S. was found in January, 2020. One year later, the numbers surrounding the pandemic are alarming.

COVID-19 has killed more than 400,000 Americans in less than a year and infections have continued to mount despite the introduction of a pair of vaccines late in 2020. USA TODAY is tracking the news. A COVID vaccine being developed by New Jersey-based Johnson & Johnson could dramatically speed up the fight against the pandemic because, unlike the two vaccines already in use, this one would require only one dose and would not need to be stored at super-cold temperatures.
Results from clinical trials of the new vaccine – developed and produced by Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen division – are expected by the end of this month. The vaccine could become the third authorized by the federal Food and Drug Administration.
“If it comes through, that’s a game-changer,” Gov. Phil Murphy said.
Johnson & Johnson had promised 1 billion doses of its vaccine to the U.S. government by the end of the year. Leaders of Operation Warp Speed, the federal program to develop and manufacture a COVID vaccine, said this month that unspecified production issues likely would slow the arrival of the initial doses.
