    Signs you work for a predatory company

    Signs you work for a predatory company

    Here are signs that you work for a bad company... I have experienced a lot of these signs...

    1. they do not train...
    2. they hire to fit
    3. employee review is an opportunity for tear down not build up
    4. your opinion is little more than toilet tissue
    5. your opinion is requested and when given treated as an opportunity to insult you
    6. you are micro managed by someone who has no idea what they are doing
    7. other departments have more rights than your department
    8. other departments dictate how you manage your work space
    9. moving goal posts... the standards that you must meet keep changing and never for your own good
    10. other employees pull you aside and warn you about what to expect
    11. your employer lies about how many people are in the dept
    12. your manager lies about your salary
    13. your manager lies about any agreements made when you were hired...
    14. hr will not make any tax changes requested
    15. your employer tries to steal money from your paycheck
    16. your employer tries to demean you for asking for mileage, parking and tolls
    17. your employer promises to pay mileage, parking and tolls at hire but never pays anything
    18. no staff meetings
    19. too many staff meetings
    20. nepotism
    21. bullying by employees
    22. bullying by mgmt
    23. favoritism
    24. racism
    25. prejudice
    26. colorism
    27. general nastiness
    28. complicated instructions for simple tasks
    29. simple instructions for complicated tasks
    30. mgmt solution to a problem is to shout at you
    31. mgmt solution to a problem is to tell you the wrong things to do
    32. mgmt micro manages you as if you and they are two years old
    33. mgmt punishes you for going above and beyond
    34. mgmt punishes you for being a team player
    35. work place jealousy
    36. you are consistently punished for what you have never been informed about...
    37. you are consistently informed about meetings, events or functions either late or after they have occured
    38. you are not allowed to train
    39. manager will literally watch you work
    40. manager tells you where to sit... complains about it... you sit somewhere else... they tell you to return to the original spot...
    41. mgmt wants to read a book with you...
    42. mgmt makes your job super easy by taking away access to resources then blame you for issues that can only be solved due to access to resources
    43. mgmt does things to make itself happy but not stuff that employees prefer...
    44. mgmt thinks every employee is a super employee
    45. mgmt thinks every employee is a moron
    46. hr insults you when you request help
    47. hr uses their outdoor voice when indoors
    48. mgmt not reachable in emergencies
    49. hr not reachable in emergencies
    50. mgmt ignores you after hearing about emergency that requires their input.

    Well, I can't think of anything to add. Side note- I started reading the list, expecting about 10 or 12 total. Holy cow! There are some that hit home, though.
    Started in the copier service business in the fall of 1988 and have worked at the same company since then, now the senior tech, since 2000.

    If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
    1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
    2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
    3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
    4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
    5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

    WOW Brother you covered just about EVERY point why I left my last employ... he told one friend that remained after I, " I don't know WHY he left" (even tho I went on a rant right there in front of him 'WHY'..) I just might copy this to a letter to hm -=IF=- you don't mind.. I WILL NOT be using your name
    **the only thing I would add is " Taking on NEW (shitty) product lines W/O consulting The Service Manager/Only Tech" (ME)

    53. mgmt compares you to other employees
    54. mgmt complains that you did not do a job good enough... when you exceeded expectations
    55. mgmt has department contests that encourage employees to not want to work together as a team
    56. mgmt not giving or complaining when you take your legally allowed employee breaks
    57. mgmt believes your lunch break is their time meaning they call and want to have meetings when you are eating...
    58. mgmt punishes you for coming in early
    59. mgmt punishes you for leaving late
    60. mgmt treats employees conversations as gossip and make it a fireable offense...
    61. mgmt hires you for fulltime and then give you part time hours
    62. mgmt smiles when they do something bad to you as if they relish the experience
    63. mgmt fires senior staff to make room for you
    64. service dept has no one there more than a year and the company is many years old
    65. mgmt want you outside the shop but complains about what you are not doing in the shop
    66. when you try to focus free time on projects in the shop, mgmt complains about calls that are not being taken outside the shop... active word free time...
    67. mgmt makes taking too long on bathroom breaks fireable offense

    71. mgmt avoids their customers

    75. mgmt openly in the office talk bad about customers when the issue can clearly be seen to be mgmt's fault...
    76. mgmt does not supply manuals or support numbers for equipment, services or agreements that they have that require this...
    77. other employees treat you like other joe from thor... they don't invest time into getting to know you because they feel you will be gone soon
    78. service dept dirty and unkempt even when times are slow
    79. employees not showing initiative
    80. employees not encouraged to show initiative
    81. mgmt calls you for help with problems outside your expertise on a regular basis
    82. mgmt complains to you about other employees on your first day
    83. mgmt complains to other employees about you on your first day
    84. mgmt sets you up to fail
    85. mgmt angry when you turn a no win situation into a win win...
    86. mgmt writes you up for turning a no win situation into a win win
    87. the company and/or management is widely known by others in that field in a bad way...
    88. the company and/or mgmt is widely known by others in the field as a byword or epithet...
    89. mgmt or company regularly and often mentioned by other employees in the same sentence as some kind of legal action
    90. all employees talk bad about the company

    Yea nice summary.

    Worked for KMPDS was the best company you can wish to work for.
    Its was the kind of place you want to get your calls done to get back to the office.

    Then i got a better offer and did not even done an interview for it. Worst mistake on my career.
    They checked 45 of your check boxes! Could not stand the place.
    Never ever just bailed on a company with out notice but 2 years into it i just walked in handed back the laptop and vacuum and left.
    Told the owner 3 months before i left he needs to find another tech and let me know when he found someone so i could leave.
    Never took me serious...

    Did not even had a job lined up was so demotivated and broken down by that place.

    took a nice 2 month holliday and made a single call to a guy that could use my help.
    Now take care of only 20 high volume and production machines and have the freedom to do side jobs.
    Pay is not the same but its ridicules to work only 8 hours total a week.

    Loosing out on experience but had the freedom to align myself into a new direction.
    Not to late in life to become a CAD/CAM and CNC expert.

    Thanks Stan you are a champ. Never knew i could be worth that much to someones business.
    If a B423 can do a 100K a month and go past 2mil with not to much issues anything is possible.

    There is enough work out there to go on your own.
    Never knew that i could make up to $200 an hour on labor and parts!
    Well do one of those every other week...
    Buying and selling toner is my new favorite thing.

    Can only speak to a few of those things (mostly minor to slightly major annoyances). I’m on the opposite side of the fence, “Signs you work for a company that values its employees”.
    Were these bad things happening at corporate companies or mom and pop shops?
    We are a slightly smaller dealer (10 techs between 3 stores), but with the longevity of most of our employees we feel like a big family.
    Sucks to hear about the crap you guys endure.
    Ive heard of the quotas, and parts allotment, and what not, but our managers are all about getting the job done in a complete and thorough manner, even if it means taking a little extra time (for f/w, cleaning, overall inspection, etc) or putting in a part that might not be quite at end of life, but will save you from making an early return trip. Don’t need a “next day callback” 70 miles away because you did a “hit and run” job, and didn’t notice the feed rollers were toast and ID sensors were dirty!
