I thought that the tactics they are using went out with the end of Senator Joseph McCarthy's investigation of those accused of being Communists when, in 1957, the Supreme Court decision in
Yates v. United States put an end to the Smith Act prosecutions by requiring that the government prove that a defendant actually took concrete steps toward the forcible overthrow of the government. The tactics that Pelosi's Select committee are using are very similar to those used by McCarthyism and the 1940s and 1950s House Committee on Un-American Activities.
