    Re: Hurricane Ida

Ida stayed pretty much on the projected path...which is good for South Mississippi. It's now a cat 4 storm with sustained winds of 145mph and gusts of 165mph. This is a bad storm but it is no Katrina. Katrina was a cat 5 the day before it hit and then weakened and grew in size. Also, Nola was on the west side of Katrina and that caused the storm surge to pound the city until the levee broke. Katrina was MUCH bigger and hung around much loner than Ida will.

With all of that being said, while I don't expect a repeat of Katrina for Nola, much will depend on exactly where the storm hits. 30 miles to the east or west can make a huge difference.

PS - Feeder bands are already coming in here and landfall will be around noon today.

    Stay safe dude,

and Slim Yes I do know several first responders my Brother in law is one. I should have been more specific and stated that they will not come out while the storm is active. Afterwords there are no better people on the planet. I fully expect to hear of the Cajun Navy and others to be out once this Storm passes. Dont know Billy but I would bet that he will be helping his neighbors if he can. Its what happens in these disasters it brings out the good in people.

Was just trying to share my experiences and concern, again stay safe Billy

Stay dry and stay safe Billy.

The eye of the storm is now over land...close to Grand Isle, La. It's pretty bad over there but it's eerily calm here. I expect that to change at some point.

The police chief in Grand Isle, LA says the wind gauge clocked 148 mph winds - and then the gauge broke.

I consider our area extremely lucky because we're on the very edge of Ida. The wind has been gusting to about 50 mph and we've had lots of rain. But we haven't lost power. I feel for Louisiana.

I'm hearing that the damage is catastrophic in parts of Louisiana. It will be tomorrow before we know the true extent of the damage.
