    Funny Laser

I've been fixing copiers a long time and I learned something new today. I came across this description of a laser printer:

Be careful out there, you don't want to get burned by the laser!!

All these years and I never realized that the laser heats the toner, now I'm really confused as to what the fixing unit and all that other stuff in there does; is all of that really needed? And I find out that laser quality is better than ink jet! This is a terrible day, think maybe I will go back to copier school and get re-trained correctly.

And that description is totally bogus. The laser used in a laser printer is merely an illumination device. Just like a laser pointer, it will not burn you. But again like a laser pointer it can cause damage to your vision if pointed directly at your eyes.

For a refresher on the laser MFP process, search online for an older Ricoh service manual such as the Aficio 2060/2075 or the Aficio 1022/1027. The older manuals by Ricoh and most likely the other manufacturers contained a very good detailed description of the entire process. In fact at one time the 1022/1027 was the basis for Ricoh's Digital Basics instructor lead training course, the initial prerequisite for all other Ricoh courses.

          Thanks much, no refresher needed.

            That manual covered it all.
