A while back i built a Home Theater room from the ground up. More on that in a minute.
When I was younger, I went to high end audio shop. In the back room is where they had a demo center set up with all the high end equipment. I listened to several until I decided on the set up I wanted complete with receiver, amps, sub, EQ, and speakers. I set everything up and played some of my favorite music. To my disappointment, it sounded nothing like what I heard at the audio shop. Same exact equipment, totally different sound. How could that be?
Later I learned that the room needed to be conditioned to get the best sound. That meant installing acoustic panels, carpet on the floor and correct placement of subs and speakers. Otherwise you'll have sound bouncing off all the walls, ceiling and floor.
That's a lot of work and money. But wait, there's more. With current technology things have gotten much more complicated. I have a Marantz SR-7015

The high end models come with Audyssey® Setup. It comes with a microphone and you plug into the Marantz and place the microphone at various points in the room and run the software. It takes calibrations and adjusts for the best sound. It can even tell if you have the polarity reversed on any speaker. You're not really able to make the correct adjustment by the human ear. It's very good, but not perfect.
I then had to buy a sound meter and run test tones on all 11-speakers and 2 subs individually. Set at 75db.
Not done yet.
The two subs had to be set up for both music and movies. In my case, this meant installing the SVS subwoofer app to my phone and creating one preset for music and another for movies.
Anyway, why does everything have to be so complicated?
