If you'd like a serious answer to your request:
1) demonstrate that you've read the manual
2) demonstrate that you made some attempt to fix it.
3) if you're going to ask about jams include the jam code.
4) if you're going to ask about an error code include the error code.
5) You are the person onsite. Only you can make observations.

I still remember warning my niece: "You see how the kitty is limping? It means her hip is hurting, and she's in a really bad mood. I would suggest that you give her a lot of space. She doesn't want to play ... "
A couple of hours later a see a large bandage on the back of her hand, and red teary eyes. "I only wanted to pet her ... " =^..^=

I used to work for a dealer where I ended up being "The Shell Answer Man".
It got to the point where I couldn't get my calls per day done because I was "helping" everyone else, so I started charging those individuals that never helped me.
A buck an answer, a six pack or a bottle of Jack a week.
For some reason they stopped bothering me.
Why do they call it common sense?
If it were common, wouldn't everyone have it?

When people ask me things I know, It makes me feel wanted.
When they ask me things I don't, I used to get grumpy, now I just blag it. Or I could ask Debs ?
Hey live n learn.
Interesting comments. For me, I feel good if someone thinks enough of me to ask for help, I feel there are no dumb questions. You guys know I have asked some questions here that were probably considered dumb but not to me. I feel good helping someone rather than feeling pissed of for being asked a question they should know. Just my opinion.
Debs, I know the feeling!
The best way to deal with it is to give them the answer of what page in the manual the answer is on. Then when they say they don't have their laptop, or whatever device they use, handy you can just tell them they better get it fast...
Asking questions is one thing, and on some models doing basic things can be a little tricky (think printing an SMC on an old AF 270 for instance), or it may be a model you don't see very often. For those types of things I'll give someone an answer, but for the basics of the machine then I have to wonder what else you don't know how to do!!!
Don't get me wrong, I do like that people trust my knowledge enough to ask me, it's just when it's pretty basic things that it gets to me. The guy who asked how to print off a config sheet, EVERY time he is asking for help on the phone and I tell him to print off a config sheet so we can check IP, gateway, etc. he asks where to find it. He's the same guy that asked for me to show him how to upgrade firmware about 8 times, after a while you realise that you are being used to do the work for them. I will help anyone that wants to try to help themselves. I know I've missed some pretty easy faults before now, I am only human (although those that actually know me would debate that fact LOL), but I try to use all available documentation to try to resolve a problem before calling for assistance. And as for not disconnecting a HDD to see if the machine boots without it, I'm sure there are 6 years olds that could have told him to do that.
