the carbonation in sodas wrecks the stomach lining... i haven't read any reports on the bubbles in beer tho.

Actually I think it is the calcium carbonate added to the water in order to get it to absorb the carbon dioxide. Beer doesn't need calcium carbonate nor does champagne or sparkling wines.

Not that I am aware of. Regional domestic beers are popular such as Coors. Lately there have been local micro breweries that have become very popular. Personally when I was in college I had a preference for imported Germany lagers.
