Last Sunday morning Aug 11 th I had been sitting out on the deck drinking coffee and working a crossword puzzle. As it was starting to get hot I decided to move down to the basement family room.
So with coffee in one hand and puzzle in the other I started down the steps. First mistake, no hand free for the handrail. My feet got tangled on the second step and I tripped. My legs curled below me in an unusual manor and I crashed down on them (all 200 lbs).
I felt OK until I tried to move, the pain in my left leg was excruciating.
I tried hollering but wife v3.0 was still in bed with the door closed. I slowing crawled up the steps and pulled myself along the floor until I could bang on the door and wake her.
She immediately called 911 and they arrived in about 10 minutes.
They gave me morphine in the truck to NO avail. At he hospital they gave me delaudnum, still to no avail. It was painful to not move and excruciating to move the leg.
When they x-rayed they found a spiral fracture on the lower leg. Like twisting a stick cw in one hand and ccw in the other hand.
They splinted it and sent me home. I was popping pills all of Sunday and into Monday until about 4am.
Tuesday I went to a bone doctor and they found two more breaks above the knee.
So here I set all broken hearted. I have a full leg cast on my left leg, living in the basement family room because the stairs are just too much to deal with.
My boss comes to see me to see if my leg is still broken and when can I come back to work.
Well I’ll have this cast for 2 weeks and a shorter one for 6 months.
So I’ll be working from home for a couple of weeks and we’ll see after that.
The pain has for the most part subsided, with a little help from Mr. Vicidin. All I have to do is drag this 30 lb cast around when ever I have to get up.
Other than that people are being understanding and not hocking me about getting back to work.
I just have to set here, getting up makes my leg swell and that starts the pain again inside the cast.
I speak to customers daily and am able to solve most os there nw problems.
Techs are seemingly able to find thier own parts and Ricoh takes my parts orders over the phone.
So thats why I haven't been around lately. I am down but not out.
