    Ricoh MP301, cant connect

I purchased a used Ricoh MP301 for home use and when I connected it via the usb port my computer says the printer is offline as if the printer has no print function, when I press printer on the home screen it says ready. Is there a setting in the service mode or a print card to install like the MP161 and 171s. Or am I missing something in my troubleshooting? Help appreciated.

Check in service mode 5-985-001 is Ethernet set to 1 and usb is 002 make is set to 1. Someone may had turn off features. If that is ok then usb part might be bad or network part. Have you tried the Ethernet port to see if that works.

Are you saying you WERE able to get the computer to add the machine to computer's "Devices and Printers" via USB?? And now it says offline after being added?

In your last post you say "When I try network printer it works". Does that mean THIS printer (the MP 301) works on the network or a different printer on the network? Why not just use it as a network printer if that works?

SP 5-985-002 is for USB. Make sure it's set to 1.
Are you assigning/ plugging into the correct USB port on the computer end?
Have you tried a different USB cable?

There aren't really a whole lot of things to check for USB.

As others have said check your usb cable. Also try switching the usb port you're connecting too, sometimes they can cause the problem. Also depending on your computer you may have to try multiple virtual usb local ports for it to be working if one of your usb ports not working.
If it works, don't touch it.

Also if you have the drivers installed already and you're seeing it as offline, go to the see what's printing screen and from the top left menu under printer, make sure use printer offline is not selected. Also ensure you install the correct drivers and don't go off the drivers windows auto picks for you

x2 Normally you have to install the USB driver BEFORE you plug in the USB cable.

Totally agree on the USB ports.

Install the drivers first, then plug it in.

It’s a shoot-till-you win deal with the ports.

For what it’s worth, you may be better with a USB 3.0 port versus 2.0.

Even though the copier only supports 2.0, the specs are better with 3.0, even though it will “dumb down” to 2.0. (Long story on that one. I had a nightmare connecting a few Fujitsu scanners a few years back. Ugh.)

Also,if you’re trying to use an older PC, the ports may be only 1.0 or 1.1, which will most likely never work at all, let alone reliably.

I had the same issue with a 301 installed the driver but when plugging in via USB Windows doesnt see or install the printer.

I wondered if USB printing was an optional extra!?
