    MP4001 VOIP fax

Can someone tell me if there is a fix for poor communication and slow receiving of faxes on a Ricoh MP4001. Customer has digital phone service.
    Thanks

VOIP sucks for faxing!! slow down the tx and rx baud rates, 9600 or slower, increase the modem volume, increase the page reconstruct time as well.......... fax machines are designed for a good old analog phone line!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I agree, the above is about the best you can do. Faxs are 80's technology, but there does not seem to be anything else that is as secure, especially for Hospitals, medical clinics and Doctors offices.

Fax technology actually goes back to the 50's.

But yes fax is analog and does not play well with a digital phone line. All that can be done is to slow it down.

Another thing to do is turn off ECM. There's a tech bulletin on Ricohs using VOIP for faxing....I'll see if I can locate it.

For anyone else having this issue, or the OP if that issue wasn't resolved:
The RX rings can also be an issue, encountered that with one client where the RX rings has to be set to 1 so the rest of the system didn't mess with it.

SET RX RING COUNT: (FAX SP mode) SP 2-103-007

Every VOIP provider has an ATA filter for fax machines. Should be around 150.00. Problem solved.

I am uncertain as to what you are specifically referring to. I assume an ATA filter is a jack? Thank you, my encounters with VOIP for Fax have been rare, but eventful when they happen.

I usually default mine to two....just to avoid the "Wrong number-one ring" calls, but good catch!
