Having some issues tracking down this code. On certain screens it is 572-02 and other's it is 572-00. This occurred after two sheets of paper were found baked around the fuser roller.

We cleaned the lenses, but disassembling the fuser unit was beyond our ability, so we sent it to the technician who refurbished the unit for repair.
We had a tech come in, but he said various motors are broken and need to be replaced and we were able to determine from the 572-02 this was a temp issue, so we assume this was not a correct diagnosis. When the error code is cleared the machine starts normally and sounds normal until it throws the code again after a short while (fuser unit cool to the touch).
BTW any advice on selecting a competent tech?

Maybe you should try correctly providing correct information. To begin with, your title says MP5502. Now the question becomes are you actually working on a Gestetner 5502 B/W, MP C5502 color or an Okidata MPS5502. If you don't fully complete your profile, how are we to know if you are located where regional climate might be factor.
SC 572 could mean that the thermopile needs to be replaced, not just cleaned
